Walk-ins are no longer possible at the two local Covid-19 testing centres in Sharrow and Darnall and all appointments must now be pre-booked. Testing remains a vital part in our fight against the spread of Covid-19 and helps to reduce the spread of infection in our city.
Those who have COVID-19 symptoms need to book a test. You can book appointments online here or by calling 119. You may experience a delay using the national system. If you cannot get an appointment right away, stay at home and continue to self-isolate until an appointment comes available for you.
All schools in Sheffield are following the national guidelines and are working to standard procedures agreed between them, the Council and Public Health England. We’re continuing to monitor feedback from schools and parents closely in order to adapt to the situation if it changes.
What should I do if someone in my child’s bubble has symptoms? The approach for children is the same as for the rest of the population: only get tested if you or your child has symptoms.
If you have any concerns about your child attending school or any other education setting, please contact the school directly. You can visit our dedicated webpage to help answer your questions including what schools are doing to keep everyone safe.
We have issued prohibition notices to four pubs and a takeaway in the city following breaches of COVID-19 rules over last weekend.
As of 18th September 2020:
- Covid-19 cases are increasing. Despite the national issues with testing, we know that 4% of tests come back positive, this is up from 1.8%.
- The average age of a positive test is 36 but we are seeing a big increase in positive cases in the 20-25 age group.
- There has been an increase in the proportion of positive tests in South Sheffield, especially in postcode areas of S7, S8, S10 and S11.
The NHS test and trace national booking system is reaching capacity. This is due to laboratory testing reaching national capacity on the day. If you have COVID-19 symptoms you need to book a test.
