A planning application for the latest round of Heart of the City II proposals has been submitted today, which if approved would see a landmark Radisson Blu hotel open on Pinstone Street.

Council announces new local testing centre in Darnall

A second local testing unit will soon be opening in Darnall to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 across the city and within our communities.  This follows on from the opening of the first unit in Sharrow last month.  The location of a third unit in Burngreave will be announced shortly.

Public Q&A session on Covid-19 Prevention

Sheffield’s Covid-19 Prevention and Management Board is to hold it’s first public briefing and Q&A session on Friday 28 August 2020 from 1-2pm.

Chaired by the Leader of the Council, and alongside the Director of Public Health,the session will give an update on the current position in Sheffield, and touch on current hot topics, before opening up to questions from the public. Race Equality Commission

Professor Emeritus Kevin Hylton from Leeds Beckett University, Chair of the Race Equality Commission

The Race Equality Commission is looking for people to join the commission and to submit evidence as part of a year long project.

Chaired by Professor Emeritus Kevin Hylton from Leeds Beckett University, the commission aims to provide an independent strategic assessment of the nature, extent, causes and impacts of racism and race inequality in Sheffield. It will then make recommendations for tackling these issues.

Broomhill social distancing measures

Work has begun to temporarily widen the footpath outside of Broomhill shopping precinct to create space for social distancing and opportunities for active travel in the area.

The scheme is set to be completed by the bank holiday weekend (30th August).

‘Hidden Nature’ Art & Photo Competition

As part of Sheffield General Cemetery's Heritage Open Days activities, they are running an art and photography competition based on the theme,  ‘Hidden Nature at Sheffield General Cemetery’.

Running until the 14 September 2020, the competition is open to all but the work you submit must be new and created specifically for this project.

Kelham Island Museum is now re-open to the public and welcoming visitors after almost five months of closure.

The museum has put new measures in place to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors and has received Visit Britain’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ certification, recognising it as a COVID-19 secure attraction.

2 sessions per day, 10:30am – 14:00pm and 14:00pm – 17:30pm

Paintings, sculptures, crafts, demonstrations and entertainment are set to fill the Botanical Gardens when the biggest outdoor art and crafts market in the North returns to Sheffield in less than three weeks’ time.
