Active Travel: new temporary cycle lanes

We're introducing temporary cycle lanes on Attercliffe Road between Princess Street and Stevenson Road this weekend. They'll create a continued route for the Five Weirs Walk while repair works are being undertaken.

We’re making it easier and safer to walk and cycle in Sheffield so roads and public transport are freed up for those who really need them.

Sheffield share in £1m Sport England award

Sport England has awarded £1m of National Lottery funding to England’s hosting of the UEFA European Women’s Championship in 2022.

The investment will support the development of local plans within the proposed EURO 22 host cities including Sheffield.

2000 children to virtually graduate

This summer over 2000 children and young people from 64 schools across the city will take part in the first ever Sheffield Children’s University virtual ceremony.

Sheffield's Ash trees infectious disease risk

Ash tree branches

A large proportion of England’s Ash trees, including Sheffield’s 250,000, are at risk from Ash Dieback, an infectious Asian tree disease sweeping across the country.

The Peak District and other parts of Derbyshire and Yorkshire have already seen a significant impact, and it has now begun to spread across Sheffield.

Supertram rail replacement works

The next phase of works on the Supertram rail replacement project will be Area 3: Gleadless Townend/Ridgeway Road, Manor Top and Spring Lane Curve, which is set to begin on Saturday 25 July. 

VolkerRail, the contractor carrying out the works, will post letters to local residents and businesses around the work areas notifying them of any disruptions.

Government shielding guidance

Guidance for the extremely clinically vulnerable about shielding

Coronavirus guidance for the clinically extremely vulnerable

If you've been shielding because you’re clinically extremely vulnerable, the Government's advice is due to change on 1 August. Advice will include that:

  • no longer advising you to shield
  • you can go to work, as long as the workplace is COVID-secure – carry on working from home if you can
  • you can go outside to buy food, to places of worship and for exercise – keeping 2 metres away wherever possible
  • Government free food parcels will no longer be delivered, you can call our Community Helpline on 0114 273 4567 if you need help
  • you may still be at risk of severe illness if you catch coronavirus so; wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face, keep 2 metres away from people outside of your household or bubble wherever possible

Rent relief for Council business tenants extended

In March we suspended rent arrears enforcement for three months for all tenants of non-residential Council property, a range of other rent support measures were put in place.

We recognise that many tenants who rent Council-owned property for business purposes and community groups have been badly affected. Support on rents has now been extended to continue to help.

Sports and leisure facilities reopening

Many leisure and fitness venues across the country reopen from 25 July. We are working with our leisure providers to make sure reopening happens safely and that residents in all areas of the city can access some facilities.

From rough sleeping to sleeping safe

During the COVID-19 pandemic 79 people who usually sleep rough in Sheffield have been provided with accommodation to ensure their safety.

Graves Park Farm reopening: 27 July

One of Sheffield’s most popular free family attractions, Graves Park Animal Farm, is set to reopen just in time for the school summer holiday. 

Families across the city can start planning their visit with a new booking system, allowing up to 50 people to visit during 45 minute sessions, between 10am-4pm, 7 days per week.

Festival summer of fun: until 28 August
