Sheffield flood defences hold despite wettest November day on record

It was the third wettest day for South Yorkshire and Sheffield’s wettest November day on record.The Environment Agency confirmed that water levels were equivalent to those in 2007. Read more about this story and how to be prepared for flooding at home or when travelling at the button below.

Privately run car parks are not included in the offer.

Highest number of views ever to Council news site for flooding

Last week saw the highest number of hits ever in a 24-hour period to our news website, Sheffield Newsroom, with over 80,000 visits to the information relating to flooding.

John Mothersole, Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, said: “Over recent years, we have been providing more news content directly to the public than ever before, through the Newsroom site and associated digital channels. This work really came into its own on Thursday and Friday, with record numbers visiting the site for information about the flooding in Sheffield.”

Thank you to everyone who visited and shared links to the site to help people get the most up to date information during the period.

Students in Sheffield register to vote before 26 November

Register to vote for students

Register to vote

Students can choose where they want to vote in the General Election on 12 December.  They can register at both their term-time and home addresses (as long as these are in different constituencies) but they can only vote in one place. The deadline to register to vote is midnight on 26 November.  Students should make sure they are registered at the address where they’d like to vote on 12 December. Find out more.

Christmas Light Switch On - 17 November

He’s graced millions of screens on the X-Factor, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Hollyoaks and now actor, singer and model Jake Quickenden will be gracing Sheffield’s Peace Gardens to switch on the city’s Christmas lights on Sunday 17 November. 

Jake will be joined on stage by a strong cast of personalities, including Britain’s Got Talent stars Siobhan Philips & Kyle Tomlinson, plus theatre’s finest panto performers from Cinderella.
