This summer we’re celebrating a landmark event that saw large scale council estates spring up across Sheffield. We’re highlighting how 100 years ago the 1919 Addison Act meant that local authorities could develop new housing for working people.

Everyone is invited to the 100 Years of Council Housing event at the Town Hall, Tuesday 16 July 2 - 5pm.  The event will see a wealth of Council Housing memories, interactive activities and you could even get help tracing your family tree!

New street tree strategy

Street trees

A cabinet report which focuses on the development of a Street Tree Strategy, as well as the new approach to managing the city’s street trees, will be discussed next week. 

Cabinet are being asked to endorse plans to create a new Street Tree Strategy for the city, in line with the aspirations set out in the overarching Trees and Woodlands Strategy, following mediated talks between the council, Amey and representatives of Sheffield Tree Action Group.

Let's Ride, free event - 14 July

Let's Ride Sheffield route map cycling

Let's ride route map

Free event open to all, take your own bike or get free bike hire, including adapted bikes.  The range of attractions along the HSBC UK Let’s Ride route and at the festival zone – which opens at 10am – include live music, a Great Britain Cycling Team display area, street food, a Sheffield United skills zone, stunt show and coaches from HSBC UK Go-Ride

Highlights include free outdoor entertainment at The Fringe Stage at Devonshire Green, an 80s/90s disco at The Peace Gardens, Street Performers in Barker’s Pool, a traditional funfair on Fargate and dozens of pubs, clubs and venues across the city featuring bands, DJs and performers over the Tramlines weekend.

UK Invictus Trials - 22-26 July

Invictus

Sheffield is set to host the first ever national games for British wounded, injured and sick veterans and personnel, with the Invictus Team UK Trials Sheffield 22 - 26 July 2019

Over five days, 470+ competitors, will take part in up to nine sports – Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Indoor Rowing, Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Rugby.
