We've confirmed funding will be given to local communities before winter to help them build flood resilience as part of a major Government-funded programme.
In June, the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) announced that Somerset Council would be allocated £50m for flood resilience. Since then, we've been working closely with partners and communities to develop a wide-ranging programme of works to reduce flood risk and increase flood resilience across the county, ranging from large engineering projects to community-based support.

We are moving ahead with the sale of the Saxonvale site in Frome to specialist real estate investment managers Newcore Capital.
The Council's Executive previously agreed to sell the 12-acre brownfield site on the open market after previous attempts to regenerate the site were unsuccessful. On Wednesday 23 September, Executive members returned to Frome to consider the eight bids received and approve an unconditional sale to Newcore as the preferred bidder.

Agratas, part of the Tata Group, is making a multi-billion pound investment in a new battery manufacturing facility at Gravity. The project is expected to create thousands of high-skilled jobs and help establish Somerset as a centre for advanced manufacturing, innovation and clean energy technology.
