County Hall's C Block, Taunton
Somerset Council has completed the sale of C Block of County Hall in Taunton to Prime plc.
Prime, a specialist developer of health and care property, intends to redevelop the 4,600 metre building to provide new key worker accommodation for the town. The building was made available for sale following a review of assets in line with the Council’s Asset Management Strategy, and was approved by the Executive in November 2023. The sale releases funds that will help the Council to protect and deliver vital services.

Somerset’s Pringles poppers can now recycle their empty tubes from the kerbside thanks to new style design that finally stacks up.
Packaging for the popular snack has long been a thorn in the side of crisp-loving recyclers because of its metal base built into the carboard tube.

Bridgwater’s Victoria Park Community Centre has played host to its first ever Skillshare event aiming to help residents reduce waste. The event brought together community members, local organisations and the general public on a day to collaborate and share sustainable practises.
Organised by Community Action Groups (CAG) Somerset, a not-for-profit organisation supported by Somerset Council and its collections contractor SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, the event brought together local organisations and the public for a day of sharing sustainability practices – from reducing food waste to repairing broken bikes.

Work is starting on Somerset Council’s major scheme to strengthen Chard Reservoir’s barrier and help protect the dam from extreme future flooding events.
The project, part funded by Somerset Rivers Authority, involves building a ‘wave wall’ to reduce the risk of the reservoir failing, culvert reconstruction, and re-grading the Anglers car park.

Plans to transform Bridgwater Docks have taken an important step forward with Somerset Council’s appointment of design consultants for the project.
The project is one of 11 schemes that fall under the umbrella of Bridgwater Town Deal that received £23.2million to regenerate and modernise Bridgwater town centre.

A Major milestone in the regeneration of Yeovil has been reached with the start of demolition work on Glovers Walk by Somerset Council’s contractors.
It is one of 4 key development sites in the town earmarked for major investment as part of the Yeovil Refresh regeneration scheme, and Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Economic Development, Planning and Assets was joined by Yeovil MP Adam Dance to see the Council’s contractor Walters UK begin the demolition process.

Somerset urgently needs more foster carers to provide nurturing homes for Somerset’s most vulnerable children, including foster homes for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) who have been forced to leave their families and seek safety in a new country.
To help highlight the urgent need for more foster homes for children across the county, Fostering In Somerset will be holding an Information Session on Monday 28 April in partnership with CHARIS Refugees.

Bacteria are developing resistance to medicines, transforming treatable infections into serious risks. Overuse and misuse of antibiotics is accelerating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
In response, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging the public to protect their health by avoiding antibiotics for colds/flu, using only when prescribed, finishing the full course, and never sharing or saving them.
