DCC YouTube video: CDS Mobile boost scheme praised for being “transformational”
We’re pleased to share that Connecting Devon and Somerset’s (CDS) Mobile Boost Voucher Scheme has relaunched with a £430,000 investment through the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership's (HotSWLEP) Growth Deal. The scheme is available to businesses and homes in Somerset and Devon offering vouchers of up to £1,300 towards technology to help improve indoor mobile coverage and connectivity.
Applicant Peter Samwell, who lives near the Blackdown Hills, described the scheme’s benefits as an “absolute revelation”.
Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) is a local government-led partnership which helps to deliver next generation broadband infrastructure to areas where the market has failed to invest.
Over 326,000 homes and businesses already have access to superfast broadband as a direct result of investment by CDS – that’s more than any other broadband programme in England.
For progress updates on the delivery of superfast broadband for your area, subscribe to Devon County Council’s Connecting Devon and Somerset newsletter. Alternatively, visit Connecting Devon and Somerset’s CDS programme webpage.
If you run a business, you need to make sure you’re recycling.
Every business is responsible for its waste and from 1 April 2025, you’ll need to ensure the following materials are recycled:
- Food waste
- Paper and cardboard
- Cartons
- Glass bottles and jars
- Food tins and drinks cans, foil and aerosols
- Plastic bottles and pots tubs and trays
- From 2027, plastic films
The changes mean that whether at home or in the office, people can recycle the same materials.

The owner of a vape shop has been ordered to pay fines and costs of £3,550 after he admitted selling vapes to a customer under the age of 18.
It’s the second prosecution for selling vapes to an underage customer in the service area in as many months after a shop owner in Bridgwater was sentenced in August.
Now, shops that sell vapes are once again reminded to review their procedures for selling age restricted goods to minors.
