Somerset Council’s new partner Kiely Bros launched the next phase of its surface treatment schedule on roads across the county last month.
This year’s programme is the biggest in at least four years and will see 1,000,000 sqm of road surface dressed - equivalent to 141 football pitches. This treatment is a greener and more cost-effective form of maintenance, helping to improve the road network whilst emitting significantly less carbon compared to alternative solutions.
Following an extensive pre-patching and preparation works programme throughout the spring and early summer, road surface specialist Kiely Bros, which signed a four-year contract in April, is delivering the Council’s extensive surface dressing programme on major and minor roads, and residential streets.

Somerset Council is taking action to reduce deaths and serious injuries at a notorious collision site in the county.
Work is being done by the Council’s contractor Octavius to realign the junction of the B3135 and B3134, known as the Miner’s Arms Junction, near Priddy, where drivers regularly fail to stop, despite clear signage. Traffic is usually travelling at speed from all directions.
Great progress on a scheme to deliver a safer Miners Arms junction near Priddy. Lead Member for Transport and Digital, Richard Wilkins, paid a visit recently to see progress.
