Flooding as a result of Storm Ciaran
Somerset Council tackled disruption from high winds and flash flooding as Storm Ciaran pushed across the county. Council teams were also on standby for any clear-up duties and to help vulnerable people across Somerset and anyone affected by flooding.
What do I do if there is another flood?
Email flooding@somerset.gov.uk or call 0300 123 2224 and choose option 1 if your property floods.
Take a look at Somerset Road Safety’s adverse weather conditions webpage if you’re caught in a flash flood when driving.
Report any issue on the roads via the Council’s report a problem on the road webpage.
How do I reach out if flooding is affecting my mental health?
You can contact Mindline – Somerset’s emotional support and mental health helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 01823 276 892 (local) and 0800 138 1692 (freephone).
You can also visit the Every Mind Matters website where you can find information and advice on managing anxiety.
The B3224 (above) will be shut for just over four months
Somerset Council are taking action in the New Year to stabilise a damaged embankment on the B3224 between Exford and Wheddon Cross. Unfortunately, the section of the road at Roundwaters will need to be shut from Monday 8 January to Friday 10 May uninterrupted.
Why must the road be closed for this long?
The road has only had one lane open for a couple of years now on safety grounds; this scheme will not only make both lanes safe for public use, but it will stabilise the embankment, improve drainage in the area and will provide road users with a new road surface. This closure gives the workforce the best conditions possible to do this as safely and as swiftly as possible.
Where can I get more information on the scheme?
You can read our full news story on the scheme below, and you can also attend a public meeting on the scheme on Wednesday 29 November. Somerset Council, scheme designers WSP and scheme contractor Walters Group will be giving a presentation and hosting a question-and-answer session from 7:30pm at the Moorland Hall, Cutcombe (TA24 7DL).
