Somerset parents and carers of children due to start school or move on to their next school in September 2024 are being urged to apply for their place online and on time.
Parents and carers of children starting a new Secondary or Upper School can apply now.
Parents of children starting school for the first time, or moving up to Junior or Middle School, can apply from 25 September 2023.
Every piece of plastic Somerset Council collected from households and via the recycling sites last year was recycled in the UK, Somerset Council can reveal.
The 6,500 tonnes of plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays all went to UK companies to be turned into new products and packaging – everything from plastic wrapping and compost bins to fleece jackets.
The figure is up from 99.4% the previous year and features in Somerset Council’s annual Recycling Tracker which will be released next week for Somerset Recycling Week.

As the nation observes ‘National Recovery Month’, a graduation ceremony took place in Taunton on Wednesday 6 September for those that have completed Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service’s (SDAS) ‘Peer Mentor’ training programme.
The group of graduates are all people who have successfully completed treatment through SDAS and will now be able to support others in treatment for their drug or alcohol use.
