The Council has now officially signed an agreement with Watchet Task Force to unlock £30,000 of funding to promote the town with the aim of boosting visitor numbers. The funding was approved in principle pending agreed terms.
The money will be used to support social media promotion, advertising, events and part of it will fund a long-term review of the design of the town to explore the potential for future improvements.

Our old telephone lines are being replaced with a digital network. This means a more reliable, future proof service that will support the UK and its residents for years to come.
It will affect anything that sends a signal through the old line from personal alarm buttons to old-style home telephones.

Somerset Council is reminding motorists and pedestrians that Chinnock Hollow near Yeovil remains closed for the foreseeable future on safety grounds.
Road closure signage is back in place following the unauthorised overnight removal of debris and signage from the road.

More than four tonnes of plastic bags and wrapping have been collected for recycling as part of Somerset Council’s role in a national project to expand recycling collections.
The small-scale pilot involving 3,600 homes across two locations in Frome started at the end of May and is already proving a success.

Flags at Somerset Council buildings were flown at half-mast on Wednesday, 2 August, as a mark of respect to former Councillor Derek Yeomans, who sadly passed away at the weekend.
Derek was elected to South Somerset District Council (Burrow Hill Ward), in 1999. And also to Somerset County Council in 2001, for Langport and Curry Rivel, serving as Chairman of the Somerset Waste Board and the Regulation Committee.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) has launched a new project, funded by the TDS Charitable Foundation, to help landlords meet their energy efficiency requirements.
The project aims to provide support and advice to landlords in complying with the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) regulations.

Somerset Council’s 'Walk for a Life' event, aimed at raising awareness of suicide prevention, returns for a second year on Saturday, 9 September.
This year’s walk starts at Castle House at the Museum of Somerset at 10.30am, and features a walk through Taunton’s Town Centre, passing through meaningful locations to commemorate those impacted by suicide within the County.

With just a week to go before polls open in Castle Cary to elect a new Somerset Councillor, voters are being reminded to bring photo ID if voting in person.
The by election is being called to fill the vacant seat and will take place on Thursday, 10 August. Polling stations will be open from 7am-10pm.

Wessex Waters planned sewerage works on Market Street, Highbridge started Thursday, 3 August 2023.
A number of parking spaces have been restricted while this work takes place, so free parking is available at Bank Street Car Park until 16 August 2023.

The future of theatre in Yeovil and the South West is in safe hands, as 15 young people from across Somerset and Dorset took part in The Octagon Theatre & Westlands Entertainment Venue’s inaugural work experience programme.
During the first week of the summer holidays, these sparky young people met with members of The Octagon & Westlands team, learning about what goes into running a busy creative arts venue.
