Helpful tips for separating waste

Flatten. Crush, Squash

Make more space in your bins by separating you waste correctly:

Create a system:

  • Start thinking how you separate and store recycling in your home before your bin collections
  • Keep a bag or box next to your rubbish bin as a reminder to recycle
  • Have one bag or box for paper and cardboard and another for plastics, cans and glass – no need to sort through rubbish when it’s time to put your bins out

Reduce reuse recycle
Hanging clothes

Recycling items correctly is important but if we can reuse items and reduce the amount we throw away this is even better for the environment and it might save us money.

Each year approx £140 million worth of clothing is either sent for incineration or to landfill.

If you have items that you no longer wear but have some life left in them, why not think about selling them online?

If you don’t want to sell your items, think about donating to charity shops or taking to textile recycling banks, you can find these across the borough and at our Household Recycling Centre (Tip) on Shidas Lane, Oldbury.

Old fabric can also but cut up and used around the house for cleaning.
