Become a Waste & Recycling Ambassador and make a difference

Help us to build a sustainable Sandwell by becoming a Waste and Recycling Ambassador.

We need your support to help engage with residents and build a cleaner, greener Sandwell.

We are looking for enthusiastic residents and people who work in Sandwell to join our Waste and Recycling Ambassadors Programme. As an ambassador, you’ll help us share clear, accurate information about upcoming changes to waste and recycling collections — especially with communities who may be harder to reach, including those for whom English is not a first language.

Full training will be provided to ambassadors, so you are well-equipped to make a difference.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

Recycle food waste

Recycle your food waste

Too much of what we throw away ends up being incinerated instead of recycled.

We can reduce the amount of waste we throw away by making some simple swaps, such as choosing a reusable water bottle instead of buying single use plastic bottles. Buying loose fruit and vegetables instead of prepacked items. Meal planning and using the ingredients you have instead of impulse purchases and using up leftovers, such as blending up ripe bananas and milk to make a great milk shake.

Any food waste you can’t use up, such as apple cores, peelings, tea bags and eggs shells can be recycled. This can either composted at home or you can sign up to our free weekly food waste collection service. This not only helps to turn your waste into something great, it also makes more room in your non-recycling (grey) bin.

Squash, Crush, Fold v1

Need to make more room in your bin?

There are many items that can be recycled that end up in the non-recycling (grey) bin. Items such as tins and cans, plastic bottles, tubs and food trays, glass bottles and jars can all be rinsed, dried and recycled.

Don’t forget to crush cans, squash plastic bottles and fold paper and card to make even more space.

Remember! From 15 September, paper and card will be recycled in your new recycling (blue) bag.
