The Great Big Sandwell Valley Wassail - FREE EVENT

Sunday 18 February

Bring your pots and pans to the very first Sandwell Valley Wassail! This is an old pagan tradition to bless apple tress with cider and soaked toast treats to tempt the good spirits and drive away the bad spirits.

Enjoy pork and apple baps, sausage and apple hot dogs, mulled apple juice and cider from our snack shack and watch as our Morris dancers perform a traditional wassailing dance. If you've never been to one before, now is the time to find out about this great English tradition.

Disposing of your old tech safely

This February, show your unwanted Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) some love 💚💚

Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment (WEEE) is one of the fastest growing sources of waste – and a big threat to the environment and human health.

Clear out your old electrical and electronic items

We throw out 155,000 tonnes of electricals every year and it’s said that there are currently 880 million unused working electrical items gathering dust in homes across the UK!

This February, why not have a rummage around the house and show your old electrical items some love?

🔧 Repair - Many organisations can repair and refurbish your small electricals. Ask the original manufacturer for a list of their authorised repair networks.

💚 Donate - If you don’t want your electrical item, donate it. Charities can raise vital funds by selling your old electricals or giving them to low-income households.

💷 Sell - Unwanted items can be sold through re-selling sites.

♻ Recycle - A massive 75% of the materials in old electricals can be recycled and turned into anything from life-saving equipment to children’s playgrounds.

You can take broken and unwanted electricals to be recycled at the household recycling centre (the tip) in Oldbury. The site is open every day from 8am-4pm - book a visit to Oldbury recycling centre today.
