UK HSA yellow cold weather alert

❄️🟡 A yellow cold-health alert has been extended across the West Midlands until Thursday 18 January.

Look out for anyone close to you who might struggle with the drop in temperature 🌡️

And don't forget, all of Sandwell’s libraries and some community centres are Welcoming Spaces during their normal opening hours.

There’s no need to book or call ahead, just come along ☕

Sandwell Connexions New Year New Start event Sat 20 Jan 2024

The largest careers fair for young people in the Black Country is on Saturday 20 January, 9.30am-2pm at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, The Hawthorns, Halfords Lane, West Bromwich.

There will be 50 local and national employers, universities, colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeship and training providers and the Connexions team of careers advisers – all under one roof!

So, for young people thinking about options after 16, 17, 18 or now, come and explore the next steps.

A third of the food we buy ends up in the bin, but by reducing the amount of food waste thrown out, the average household could save £60 per month – that’s £720 per year!

You can take our food waste saving quiz to test your knowledge and learn new approaches to food and food waste.

Weekly food waste collections are free in Sandwell and can help you see more clearly what foods end up being thrown away and make changes to your habits. The brown food bin will also be the place for things that simply can’t be eaten, such as eggshells, teabags, chicken bones, onion skins.

Consultation launched on plans to build new affordable homes in Tipton

Have your say on new homes for Tipton

📢 We’re holding a drop-in consultation event on Monday (15 January) for people to find out about our plans to build new, affordable rented homes in Tipton town centre.

It’s part of a project jointly funded by the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and Sandwell Council.

📍 Just turn up any time between 2pm and 7pm at Tipton Library, Unity Walk, to view the plans, talk to officers about the scheme and to let us know what you think.

If you cannot come along on the day, an online survey will be available from Monday as part of the consultation to see the plans and make comments.

Heritage Talks at Sandwell Valley visitors centre

Heritage talk with Dr Mike Hodder

Are you coming for a walk through Sandwell Valley on Saturday 20 January?

Why don't you pause at the Visitor Centre and join us for Dr Mike Hodder's illustrated talk about the archaeology and history of Sandwell Priory and its relationship to other parts of medieval West Bromwich? Coffee and tea will be provided by our Tea Rooms. We will keep the museum open for you too.

The heritage talk is on Saturday 20 January, from 11am to 12.30pm, you can find out more at Visit Sandwell.

Street racing banned in the Black Country

A final hearing into an injunction banning street racing in the Black Country will be heard by the High Court at the Birmingham District Registry, Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre, Priory Courts, 33 Bull Street, Birmingham B4 6DS, on Tuesday and Wednesday 27 and 28 February.

At next month's hearing, the claimants will be seeking to extend the scope of the injunction so that it covers spectators and organisers.

Incidents of street racing in Sandwell should be reported online to the council or to West Midlands Police on 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
