Rough Sleepers

Concerned about a rough sleeper?

We have activated our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) for rough sleepers. This means anyone who is at risk of or already sleeping rough has accommodation overnight.

We're committed to providing emergency accommodation for all people sleeping rough whatever the weather, but this becomes especially important when temperatures drop.

We can provide emergency accommodation and longer term accommodation for anyone who wants more help and support.

Each person will have a support worker who will work with them to develop a sustainable plan addressing housing, substance misuse and finances.

If you know someone who is sleeping rough, then the council can help no matter the temperatures. We would encourage you to get in touch as there is help and support available, including somewhere to stay.

If you see someone sleeping rough, let us know by filling in our online reporting form so we can provide support.

Or you can contact the Rough Sleepers Team by:

Email: rough_sleepers@sandwell.gov.uk

Telephone: 0121 368 1166 (Option 2) or out of hours 0121 569 6883.

Our Warm Spaces are still open and ready to help

Warm Spaces are a safe place where you can keep warm, chat, have a hot drink and charge your devices.

And the Warm Spaces in our libraries always have something going on. You can take out a book, use the computers, get involved in activities and join some of the groups that meet there.

You can also have a chat with staff about the support services available, get advice and information about benefits and bills and how to access community support to combat isolation.

Hear how our Warm Spaces are Supporting Sandwell.

Bins

Cold weather impact on bin collections

During snowy or icy conditions bin crews may not be able to get to your property to empty your bins safely.

This may result in bin collections being delayed until conditions improve.

If your bins are not emptied on your usual day, check online for the most up-to-date information about your bin collections.

Gritters keeping our roads safe

With the temperatures dropping, 🤩 Melt-On John, 🇬🇧 Rule Gritannia, ⚠ Ctrl+Salt+Delete and the gang will be going out on our roads whenever we need them. Give them a wave if you see them! 👋

Our gritters will be out and about
