Council services over Christmas and New Year

Our offices will be closed over Christmas and New Year. You can report issues or request services online - here's a list of things you can report through our website.

Please note, if you are reporting a problem while our offices are closed, we may not come back to you until the New Year.

There's more information on our Christmas opening hours webpage that may be useful over the Christmas and New Year period.

No changes to bin collections over Christmas and New Year

No changes to Christmas and New Year bin collections

There are no changes to your bin collection days over Christmas and New Year, so please put your recycling and general waste bins out on the usual day.

If for any reason there are delays to collections in your street (such as because of bad weather), please leave your bins out and crews will be with you as soon as possible.

Remember – the tip is open every day 8am-4pm except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Book a slot and take along any extra rubbish.

Survey for tenants living in flats

🏢If you're a council tenant and you live in a flat, we want to hear your views on building safety.

📲 We have created a survey working with our community partnership groups and TRAs that we'd like you to fill in. The closing date is 31 January 2022.

⭐This is your opportunity to let us know your thoughts and ideas on building safety issues. We'll also be using this to develop our resident engagement strategy.

Safe sleeping - keeping your baby safe

Safer sleeping advice

Becoming a parent is a special experience, but can be very daunting, especially when it comes to keeping your baby safe.

The Sandwell Children's Safeguarding Partnership recommends some simple dos and don'ts for safe sleeping.

The advice is for all naps, not just night time sleeping.

  • DO place your baby on their back to sleep, with their feet at the end of their cot or Moses basket
  • DO keep your baby smoke free during pregnancy and birth
  • DO place your baby to sleep in a separate cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for the first six months
  • DO breastfeed your baby, if you can
  • DO use a flat, waterproof mattress in good condition
  • DON’T sleep with your baby in a bed, on a sofa or in an armchair
  • DON’T sleep in the same bed as your baby – the risk is further increased if you smoke, drink or take drugs or if your baby was born prematurely or was of low birth weight
  • DON’T let your baby get too hot
  • DON’T cover your baby’s face or head while sleeping or use loose bedding
  • DON’T put your baby to sleep next to another child

The Lullaby Trust raises awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), provides expert advice on safer sleep for babies and offers emotional support for bereaved families.
