New Leader, Cabinet, Mayor and Deputy Mayor

Councillor Rajbir Singh is the new Leader of Sandwell Council – read more about his priorities as Leader.

He was formally confirmed as Council Leader at the annual meeting of the council on Tuesday (25 May).

Councillor Singh leads a Cabinet of eight councillors as follows:

Strong and Resilient Communities - Cllr Maria Crompton (Deputy Leader)

Best Start in Life - Cllr Karen Simms

Connected and Accessible Sandwell - Cllr Jackie Taylor

Finance, Council Sustainability and Transformation - Cllr Wasim Ali

Governance and Democracy - Cllr Danny Millard

Living and Ageing Well - Cllr Suzanne Hartwell

Quality Homes and Thriving Neighbourhoods - Cllr Zahoor Ahmed

Strong and Inclusive Economy - Cllr Iqbal Padda

New Sandwell Council cabinet May 2021

The new Mayor of Sandwell is Councillor Mushtaq Hussain. His main consort will be his son, Mr Amar Mushtaq; family friend Mr Ijaz Ahmed will also act as consort.

Councillor Richard Jones is the new Deputy Mayor of Sandwell. His consort is his partner Councillor Richard McVittie.

At the ceremony this week, votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing mayor and deputy, former councillor Dr Ann Jaron and Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, who had both served two years in their respective roles as there was no ceremony last year due to Covid-19.

The new Mayoral team will be raising money for St John Ambulance.


Sandwell museums are re-opening

📢 Great news - the past in back!

Sandwell Museums are re-opening for visitors to look around the grounds and houses.

✅ Bromwich Hall and Haden Hill House are now open to welcome visitors. Oak House and Wednesbury Museum will be holding open days in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on Sandwell Museums & Arts Service Facebook page for details.

Bank Holiday 31 May bins update

No changes to bin collections on Bank Holiday Monday

Please put your bins out as normal on Monday (31 May) and for the rest of the week

If you’re getting in the garden, use your green lid bin for your green waste. Find out your next bin day.

If you’re planning a trip to the tip, remember you need to book a slot beforehand. You can now book last minute visits if available.
