HUG provides a warmer home for ill pensioner
Free energy-saving upgrades have helped provide a warmer home for a man and his ill wife in Chelmsford.
Gordon Green, aged 81, said the amount of gas needed to heat his property was costly.
Having a warm home is essential to support health, and for Mr Green it was ever more important to help his unwell wife so both were keen to reduce their gas usage.
Thankfully, through the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) they were able to do just that.
They received a letter informing them of their eligibility and attended a meeting to find out more on what measures they may be eligible for.
Following a survey, they discovered they could receive insulation upgrades, felt underlay, new extractor fans, vents and more.
“It is much warmer in the morning so our home is retaining heat,” Mr Green said, noticing an immediate reduction in gas usage.
While they were initially apprehensive about having people work on their home, the surveyor explained the process in full detail to put them at ease.
In addition to having a warmer home, Mr and Mrs Green were most impressed with the service and work ethic of all involved.
He added: “Management and work staff were friendly and hard workers, I have never seen people work like it. I miss them as they were so nice.”
