Statement from Rochford District Council
The statement from Rochford District Council for 23 October is now available:
The County Council is working with the Active Essex Foundation to extend its Holiday Hunger programme over this coming half term, which will see 33 programmes available across the county and more than 1,000 children provided with free activities and food.
This scheme is an extension to the very popular summer holidays activity programme which provided free childcare and a free meal for working families and saw 3,548 children take part.
Yesterday, Essex County Council, alongside MPs, Essex businesses and all councils in Essex, wrote to the government to set out the case for greater business support for High local Covid alert level areas.
Today, Thursday 22 October, the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, delivered a statement to the House of Commons on the economic support for businesses in these areas. Before today’s announcement, no area in the country in the High local Covid alert level was receiving this support.
Five councils across Essex are set to receive a share of £744,440 funding to tackle rough sleeping over the next three years following a successful partnership bid led by Essex County Council.
Dr David Edwards, Consultant in Health Protection, PHE East said: “COVID-19 rates continue to rise in the East of England and we are now seeing a spike amongst our over-60s population. We need to work together to protect ourselves, our loved ones, the elderly and the vulnerable in society.
