A Holocaust Memorial Day service, hosted by Rochford District Council’s Chairman Cllr Mr David Merrick and featuring guest speaker Holocaust survivor Mr Leslie Kleinman, was held at the Mill Arts & Events Centre on Friday, January 25.
Held to remember the victims of the Holocaust and all other genocides that have occurred since, the event commenced next to Rochford District Council’s specially commissioned Memorial to Victims of Persecution, outside the Mill Arts & Events Centre, Bellingham Lane, Rayleigh, with a memorial service conducted by The Revd David Oxtoby, Chaplain to the Chairman of Rochford District Council. The service featured readings by Jack de Metz from the Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation and students from the district’s secondary schools and a poem read by HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst.
