Hoober Ward Community Celebration Event
Together we shine and the stars shone brightly over Brampton for this Community Celebration Event, where Ward Councillors Brent, Lelliott and Williams extended their earnest thanks to local groups, organisations and Parish Councils.
The evening was a tribute to the inspiring efforts and outstanding contributions made across the Hoober Ward - a true celebration of community spirit, dedication and collaboration.
With smiles all around, Ward Members had the honour of presenting Certificates of Appreciation, taking a moment to share heartfelt words about the incredible impact each group and organisation has within their community.
The evening concluded with generous servings of delicious pie and peas, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where guests could chat, connect and enjoy some valuable networking time.
Congratulations to everyone involved - thank you for all that you do and please keep up the fantastic work!
This activity aligns with one of our Hoober Ward Priorities:
Support opportunities for bringing people together, enhancing community spirit and support the communities and its groups to thrive.
Watch Your Speed
Councillors Brent, Lelliott and Williams remain committed to making Hoober Ward a safe and welcoming place for everyone. After listening to concerns from residents in Melton Green and surrounding areas about excessive vehicle speeds, they were pleased to take action.
In partnership with Wath Ward Councillors Cowen and Jackson, they jointly funded the purchase of a brand-new vehicle activation sign. Now installed on Melton Green in West Melton, the sign displays a clear warning and speed limit whenever a vehicle approaches at excessive speed - helping to encourage safer driving habits among motorists.

|
Our councillors are also working closely with Council partners to explore further traffic calming measures that could benefit the area.
This aligns with the Hoober Ward Priority to:
Improve Road Safety
- Work with partners to address local concerns around road safety improvements
- Work with communities to help alleviate parking problems, speeding and improve traffic flow

New Homes for Hoober
Great news for West Melton as Councillors Brent and Williams joined Councillor Beresford (Cabinet Member for Housing) and partners for the handover ceremony of six brand new two-bedroom semi-detached houses. Taking less than a year from start of build to completion, these homes will make an important contribution to Hoober Ward and the Council Homes Delivery Programme, which is on track to deliver 1,000 new Council homes by mid-2027.
Beautifully finished and decorated, inside and out, the properties have been built using timber frames construction and installed with air source heat pumps, continuing the Council's decarbonisation goal.
Brampton Walkabout
Hoober Ward Councillors Brent and Williams joined South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority's Kilvinder Vigurs (Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime) and partners for a walkabout in Brampton, in response to reports of illegal off-road bikes in the area.
All parties are dedicated to tackling these issues with South Yorkshire Police carrying out patrols of the affected areas and Ward Members working with partners to look at what further measures can be put into place to reduce this anti-social behaviour, including restricting access to places.
Councillors Brent, Lelliott and Williams would also like to thank residents for ensuring that these incidents continue to be reported and for their continued support and patience whilst they work towards a long term solution.
This aligns with the Hoober Ward Priority of:
Tackling Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour.
- Working in partnership with the Police and other partner agencies using a problem solving approach to tackle local issues
- Work with partners to promote reporting of crime and anti-social behaviour using a variety of mediums
Motorbikes, Quads & Off Road Vehicles
Don't suffer in silence - motorbikes, quads and off road vehicles are not just a nuisance, they can help cause anti-social crime, so make sure you report them to South Yorkshire Police. If it's an emergency, always call 999, for a non-emergency use 101 or go online.
Harley Speed Watch
Ward Councillors Brent and Williams were out again with partners from Neighbourhoods and South Yorkshire Police for a second speed watch in Harley Village, in the new 20mph Road Safety Scheme. They continue their commitment to making our roads safer for everyone.
The speed watches have been carried out over two dates to target different increased risk times such as the school run or getting to and from work. Done this way, speed watches can be more effective and deter speeding over a broad variety of times instead of just sticking to peak times.
This aligns with the Hoober Ward Priority:
Improving Road Safety
- Work with partners to address local concerns around road safety improvements
- Work with communities to help alleviate parking problems, speeding and improve traffic flow
Interested in Forming a Community Speed Watch Group?
Community Speed Watch groups are co-ordinated by South Yorkshire Police but managed and run by unpaid volunteers in the community, allowing residents to play a part in making their communities safer while educating drivers.
If you are interested in starting a scheme in your area, register your interest by emailing csw@southyorkshire.police.uk.

Update on Garden Waste Collections
The garden waste collection service, resumed at the start of September on a winter schedule timetable; one collection every four weeks.
We’ve been working to improve the situation. General waste and recycling collections have been collected more consistently throughout September.
While staffing levels have started to recover, they’re not quite where they need to be just yet - which means we will continue to collect garden waste around once every four weeks until the end of the subscription period, which ends on Friday 20 February 2026.
Because this isn’t the standard of service we committed to, as a goodwill gesture we will be discounting £10 from next year’s bill for everyone who subscribes for next year’s service. If someone decides not to re-subscribe, they will be able to request a £10 refund.
We’re asking that residents do not contact us about this yet. We will provide residents with more information about the discount and how to claim a refund when we write to them with details of next year’s garden waste subscription by the end of the year.
Residents will be contacted directly via email and letter, and an update will be published on the Council’s website.

Hoober Ward... Love Where You Live
Calling all Hoober residents! Ward Councillors Brent, Lelliott and Williams, would like to see what you think makes Hoober Ward so special.
So, whilst you're out and about, should you spot a lovely sunset, birds singing, dew on the grass or a beautiful flower, get your camera out and snap away. You can send your pictures to us for a chance to appear in the monthly ward e‑bulletin.
Please email: neighbourhoods@rotherham.gov.uk and title your message 'Hoober Ward, Love Where You Live', telling us where your photo was taken and why it means so much to you.
This month's submission is from a Hoober resident who loves visiting the RSPB at Old Moor, Manvers and manged to get this shot of a female duck. She said she always enjoys walking around Old Moor as it's a chance to leave the world behind and recharge her batteries. The kids also love it as it's a chance to learn about the environment and wildlife.
Please get in touch!
If you would like share an event that is happening in the next month or two, perhaps you have a good news story or want to get the community involved, I would love to hear from you. Please send a short write up with pictures.
Thank you
