Hello and welcome to our first Family Hubs newsletter!
In this month's edition, we want to tell you about some of the fantastic things that have been happening across our Family Hubs network in Rotherham.
LATEST NEWS
Voluntary and Community Sector Family Hub Network
Many of our VCS partners are signed up to Family Hubs and delivering services and activities within their local communities. For a full list of the organisations that are part of our Family hub network visit our Family Hubs website.
One of our VCS Family Hubs is REMA – Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance – who deliver a range of services and activities to families within our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, ranging from regular advice and guidance drop in sessions, to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes and parenting programmes, to one off events to celebrate special days such as World Mental Health day.
As part of the funding, Maria, REMA’s Family Hub Navigator supports families directly by providing advice and guidance sessions around issues which may affect families such as benefits, housing, and parenting programmes.
Maria and her team of amazing volunteers also run a busy baby and toddler group every Friday during term time, a safe space where families come to chat, play and sing!

Parent and Carer Panel
The Parent and Carer Panel is a group of families who meet every six weeks to share their experiences and views on Family Hubs services for children aged 0-2 years. Feedback is then shared with senior leaders who work together with parents and carers to evaluate and design services to meet the needs of our community.
The Panel worked collaboratively with Public Health for six months to co-produce Rotherham’s Best Start in Life guidance. The publication was celebrated with a launch event in August 2024.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Laura Ellison laura.ellison@varotherham.org.uk / 07762022734
Our next sessions are;
- Friday 18 July, 9.30am to 11am at The Place
- Wednesday 17 September, 1pm to 2.30pm at Activate

The Big Latch
On Friday 4 April Grimm & Co, in partnership with the Rotherham Infant Feeding Team, hosted the annual Big Latch On. The event aims to bring families and the wider community together to celebrate breastfeeding and promote the support available to families on feeding and raising babies. We recognise that infant feeding journeys can sometimes be complex and challenging so we want to stress that all parents are welcome however their baby is being fed.
The Big Latch On is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parents, make new friends, share your parenting experiences and have a say on local support services. We want this to be our biggest event ever and are looking forward to another bustling event.
Grimm & Co was the first community venue to sign up to the Rotherham Backs Breastfeeding scheme which recognises and promotes public premises that are welcoming and supportive of breastfeeding. This helps families to feel confident about feeding their baby when they are out and about in Rotherham, helping them to meet their feeding goals.
If you run a public venue in Rotherham and you would like to join the scheme please contact Vicky Wilkinson at rgh-tr.rotherhaminfantfeedingteam@nhs.net

Many of our programmes are available in a range of languages and for families who don’t have access to a computer, you can visit one of our Family Hubs sites to use a public access computer.
Expectant parents can learn more about the programmes on the Family Hubs website or by speaking to any one of the practitioners working from Family Hubs, such as a Midwife, Health Visitor, or Outreach Worker.
