Have your say on Swinton Precinct proposals
As part of the ongoing redevelopment of the centre of Swinton, plans are underway to improve the public space around the Civic Hall and local shops. Following the redevelopment of the Civic Hall and Library, we want to create a welcoming, safe outdoor space. This reflects the feedback that the community have given us in previous rounds of consultation.
The proposed changes include:
- Replacing the paving around the Civic Hall and local shops
- Overall enhancement of public spaces to tackle Anti-social Behaviour and improve the pedestrian experience
- Improved shop frontages
- New landscaped area including seating
- Under-5’s play area
- Creating direct pedestrian access between the library and Station Street
Now that some more design work has been done, we would welcome your thoughts and feedback.
Join the conversation and attend our consultation event: Thursday 27 February, 3pm to 7pm, Swinton Civic Hall, Station Street, Swinton, S64 8PZ.
We are also planning to launch an online questionnaire and will email you as soon as it opens on our website.
Skip, Skip, Hooray!
A skip day took place on the Fitzwilliam Estate, and wow did people make the most of it! Four skips were filled to the brim, helping residents clear out their homes and gardens.
Thanks to the Housing Officers who organised the skips and the ward councillors who funded them, the community is now a little lighter, brighter, and clutter-free.
Here’s to happier, healthier living spaces—and the sheer joy of chucking things away guilt-free!

Fitzwilliam Estate Walkabout
A community walkabout took place alongside the scheduled skip day, on the Fitzwilliam Estate bringing together Housing Officers, Councillor Harper, representatives from Neighbourhoods and Rotherfed, and a local resident. The group toured the area, identifying and addressing any issues to help improve the neighbourhood.
Bags of community spirit at St John's Road
Two large skips were filled to the brim at St. John’s Road Skip Day, as local residents came together to clear out their unwanted rubbish. The Swinton Community Focus Group also joined in, picking up litter from the area and collecting 16 bags of rubbish.
Adding to the effort, a community walkabout took place on the same day, with local PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) joining residents to identify issues and ensure the area stays clean and safe.
A great example of teamwork making a difference!
Mirror Mirror on the wall, who had the best panto of them all? Curtain up at Brookfield Junior Academy
On Thursday 9 January 2025, Brookfield Junior Academy was filled with laughter, cheers, and a touch of magic as children and staff enjoyed a spectacular performance of Snow White by M&M Theatrical Productions.
From the moment the curtain rose, the audience was captivated by hilarious antics, catchy songs, and plenty of “he’s behind you!” moments. The show didn’t just entertain—it sparked imagination, curiosity, and creativity, giving children the tools to make sense of the world in the most fun way possible.
A huge thank you goes to the Swinton and Kilnhurst ward councillors, whose generous funding made this unforgettable experience possible. Their support brought the joy of live theatre to so many young faces, ensuring a day filled with wonder, giggles, and maybe even a few happily ever afters.
Here’s to more magical moments at Brookfield in the future!
Milton School art on display at Swinton Library
Cllr Gina Monk visited Swinton Library to see Milton School's art exhibition earlier this month . Cllr Monk wrote: 'The sense of pride from both the students and adults in the room was evident, with lots pointing out their work to me and talking about what inspired them. Amazing stuff.'
The exhibition is free to visit and runs for a few more weeks. Calendars that feature the art are for sale and there are even plans to produce full size prints of the artworks.
Creepy crawlies and cool critters on show at Zoolab's wild visit to Swinton Library!
Swinton Library welcomed Zoolab ethical animal encounters and their fascinating line-up of weird and wonderful creatures earlier this month! From a giant snail to a tarantula and even a slithering snake, the event captivated around 35 children and their parents, who had an unforgettable hands-on experience.
A huge thank you to our local ward councillors for funding this exciting educational session!
