On Friday 26 July, we celebrated the official opening of Swinton Library with a vibrant community event spanning both the library and the newly refurbished Swinton Civic Hall.
The event was filled with activities for all ages and featured Rotherham United’s popular inflatable dartboard, as well as giant lawn games like Jenga and Snakes and Ladders.
The day saw strong community engagement with stalls from various local organizations, including Voluntary Action Rotherham, Early Help, Neighbourhoods, Smiles for Miles, South Yorkshire Police, Flux, and the Children’s Capital of Culture.
Local Swinton groups showcased ballroom dancing, keep-fit classes, and karate demonstrations. Families enjoyed face painting, biscuit decorating, and more.
The atmosphere was buzzing with community spirit, with local businesses from the precinct joining in.
Special guest John Healey MP was on hand alongside our local ward councillors to officially open the ceremony. Inside the library, a full schedule of activities ran throughout the day.
The event was a wonderful showcase of local talent, services, and community spirit, marking an exciting new chapter for Swinton Library.
Swinton and Kilnhurst Ward Councillors recently invited local residents to share their views on the proposed installation of two picnic benches at Pottery Ponds.
Earlier this year, a request was made for benches near the small pond at the Pottery Ponds site. In response, councillors reached out to gather broader community feedback on the proposal.
The consultation has now closed. We extend our thanks to all residents who shared their opinions. The results have been carefully reviewed, and the next steps are being considered. Residents will be updated with further information on what happens next.
Join us for the Family Community Picnic (Bring a Bear!) on Tuesday 20 August between 12pm to 3pm at the green space opposite the shops on Calledine Way (Fitzwilliam Estate).
Part of the Swinton Creates programme, this event promises a fun-filled afternoon with Nova City’s mobile parkour course, environmental arts by Grace Jandrall, engaging activities from the library, and pebble painting.
Bring your picnic, blanket, and teddy bear to enjoy the festivities.
We are very pleased to let you know that the resurfacing works on Rockingham Road and Woodman roundabout have been completed.
Thank you to everyone for their patience during the works and for bearing with any delays which may have been caused.
