Swinton Rockingham neighbourhood update

The latest news and information from the areas around Swinton Town Centre and West Swinton.

Footpath closure

The footpath that runs from the paved area at the front of Swinton Civic Centre to the car park behind it is to close while the old library is demolished by Ben Bailey Homes.

The footpath will close on 29 April 2024 and is expected to reopen in mid-June 2024.

The footpath that runs past the old library from Highcliffe Drive will also close until it is safe to reopen. We are sorry for any inconvenience but safety is a priority.

Nearby businesses and services will be open as usual.

A newly refurbished library is due to open at the former customer service centre building later this year. This is part of the Council’s major redevelopment and improvements to Swinton town centre.

Local Government Elections

Polling stations will open from 7am until 10pm on 2 May. The address of your polling station appears on your poll card letter. 

If you are voting in a polling station, you will have to show an official form of photographic ID before you can be given a ballot paper, such as a passport, driving license or older persons' bus pass.

If you do not have an accepted document you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. 

The deadline for applying for a Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.

Diabetes Support Group

After the success of the relaunch in March, Rotherham Peer Support Group is ready to hold the first in a regular series of meetings.

Share experiences, hear expert speakers and help support others living with diabetes, their family, friends and carers.

Future meetings will also be on the second Tuesday of the month at The Community Room, Tesco Extra, Drummond Street, S65 1HY.

Rotherham community Dementia Workshops

Home Instead are hosting a FREE TO ATTEND workshop to support families affected by dementia.

Come along on Thursday 16 May 2024, 11:30am to 1:30pm at Toby Cavery, Eastwood Trading Estate, Sycamore Road, Rotherham, S65 1EN.

You will be able to learn more about:

• Alzheimer's and other dementias - facts and symptoms
• Understanding behaviours and unmet needs
• Practical issues, such as driving and planning ahead
• The benefits of activities, including capturing life's journey
• Improving communication
