In 2023 the team at St Leonards Church, Dinnington approached Dinnington Ward Councillors to ask for support financing their plans for new kitchen. Ward Councillors have this month awarded the remainder of their Capital Funding devolved budget to the project, helping the church move closer to their required total.
Cllr Hall said she was delighted to help the group who do so much for the community.
The church stated: "We are conscious of the fact that we are a church in a community where there is a significant area of deprivation, with child poverty being a very concerning issue. Going forward, we are keen to provide activities such as a holiday club for children where appropriate catering facilities would be required.
"An improved kitchen facility would allow for further use in community-based events such as Safe Harbour, an evening opportunity for teenagers to meet socially in church with their peers. Warm Hub would be extended to the provision of light refreshments."

New footpath at Laughton Common
Councillors have high hopes of securing funding to implement a crucial road safety scheme in the ward of Dinnington.
Road safety is a huge issue across the ward, in our rural villages like Firbeck, Letwell, Gildingwells, Carr, Slade Hooton and Brookhouse, and also in Dinnington, Laughton Common and Laughton-en-le-Morthen. Councillors are proactively working with a number of residents on Swinston Hill Road in Dinnington, Lakeland Drive in Dinnington and Oldcotes Road in Throapham to tackle known issues.
We have joined local police officers at speed watch events in various locations in the ward to build a better picture of where resource is most needed.
It has not been an easy task to select just one scheme to fund – road safety is the number one issue that is raised with all of us. We share residents’ concerns about dangerous and inconsiderate parking and speeding in any area, whether on an estate, in a village or on a long road like Swinston Hill.
However, Councillors decided to request the funding, worth just under £100,000, is directed to a scheme in Laughton Common to build a footpath between Laughton Common and Thurcroft.
Cllrs Dack and Whomersley have been pushing for this for some time, having put this location forward to the Safer Neighbourhood’s scheme for the last two years, and following a meeting with residents in the village last summer.
The Council has an ambition to promote active travel across the borough and providing a proper and safe footpath in an area where people were already walking (at great risk) is one way we can make a positive contribution to this aim in Dinnington ward.
The report requesting funding is now being put to cabinet for funds to be released in the new financial year.
Cllr Sophie Dack will be holding a Street Surgery in Dinnington this Friday, 26 January at 3:30pm on Swinston Hill Road, at the junction of Swinston Hill and High Nook Road.
