Rotherham United Community Trust would like to invite the people of Eastwood to come and join us for the launch of the More Than Football programme.
When: Monday 18 December 2023
Where: The Unity Centre, Eastwood, S65 1PD
Time: 6pm start
Cost: Free of charge to attend with food and drink provided
Parking: Free The More Than Football programme (also known as the Active Through Football programme) focuses on three target areas in Rotherham; Eastwood, Kimberworth and Maltby. This programme is genuinely needs-led, designed and delivered by the community for the community, and has been co-produced by VCSE infrastructure partners in consultation with service users and their members. The programme targets new audiences and places which aren’t currently taking part in physical activity, and adopts a new model of codelivery. It is the only initiative which makes an entitlement pledge to all Eastwood, Kimberworth and Maltby residents of offering opportunities to access physical activity within a 10 minute walk from their home.
The More Than Football programme will also support the Moving Rotherham partnership in delivering a transformational behaviour change programme and deliver their aim of ‘people in Rotherham being proud to live in and contribute to stronger, thriving communities by engaging with physical activity or sport’.
The plans will be based predominately on engaging key participants through the delivery of recreational and informal football activity, with aims of;
- Increasing participation in different forms of football.
- Increasing participation in different physical activity/sport.
- Providing opportunities for the community to encourage behavioural and mind set change, to encourage leading a healthy active and social lifestyle.
-
Decreasing loneliness by bringing people together through alternative provisions such as coffee mornings, walking groups, group fitness classes and much more.

Eastwood Village Primary School are hosting monthly Parent/Carer forums for residents in Eastwood.
These monthly meetings are an informal way to get local people meeting eachother and talking about what they would like to see in their local area.
Meetings are community led and a great way to meet like minded people where you live.
Keep reading to find out about a local litter pick that came about after an idea was discussed at a recent forum.
The next meeting will take place on Friday 1 December at 8:30am at Eastwood Village Primary School.
We look forward to seeing you there!
From Monday 6 to Sunday 12 of November 2023, Rotherham United Community Trust worked across the Rotherham community spreading the message #TidyUpOurTown.
The mission for the #EFLWeekOfAction was to conduct as many litter picks across the borough, and get as many groups/communities involved as possible.
To say this was a success, is an understatement. The RUCT team worked with schools and partners through the week, and cleaned up over 1100kg of waste.
After feedback was received from parents/carers at a recent forum, Eastwood Village Primary School worked with RUCT on a litter pick around the village, involving local residents, teachers and pupils from the school.
The event was an amazing success and something which the school are hoping to repeat soon.
The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is asking residents to complete a short survey to help shape the future of policing across the county.
South Yorkshire residents are asked to highlight the areas of policing and crime they would prioritise such as tackling neighbourhood crime, domestic abuse, victim support services, dealing with off-road bikes, and fraud.
The survey can be accessed here
