The Friends of Swinton Station community group celebrated their latest achievement of the wall painted mural with a visit from Rotherham's deputy Mayor, Councillor Sheila Cowan, who is seen cutting the ribbon to formally unveil the artwork.
The event was organised by the group, to show off the many other improvements at the station, including the local interest artwork produced by students from Swinton Academy which is mounted in the waiting room. It was pleasing that the course teacher and students involved in the project from the Academy were able to attend and see their contributions on display.
In addition passengers passing through the interchange and guests were able to see the freshly arrived bug hotel funded by the Swinton Rockingham Ward budget which is on site to help sustain some of the much needed variety of insects that live in our community.
The aim of the station group is to pass on a little cheer and make Swinton Station interchange a nice experience to pass through. There’s much more to be done, and hopefully visitors can appreciate the work in progress.
The friends of Swinton Station community group have also arranged for an arrivals display to be installed at The Bank Bar / Bistro so travellers can call in an enjoy food and drink whilst waiting for their train.

Residents from the Fitzwilliam Estate arranged with the help of Flux, Rotherfed and the Councils Housing and Neighbourhoods Teams a pumpkin painting event at October half term. 57 children from the estate had the opportunity to work with an artist to paint their own pumpkin. The weather wasn't the best but everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Residents also collected unwanted Halloween costumes that children could take away for free if they didn't have a costume to wear.
We would like to thank Tesco and everyone who donated pumpkins for the the children to paint.
Each year the Kilnhurst and Swinton East Ward councillors agree a set of ward priorities that they will focus on over the coming year.
They use a range of information to develop those priorities, such as local statistics, advice from council services and other partners, such as the Police and information from community groups and Parish Councils. Most importantly they have conversations with local residents.
Earlier this year your councillors and the Neighbourhoods Team conducted a consultation exercise which provided residents with the opportunity to share the things that were important to them about their neighbourhood.
Thank you to all those that took time out to fill in the online questionnaire or attended the consultation event at Kilnhurst Resource Centre.
All the information gathered has helped inform the latest set of ward priorities, which you can now view here.
Newly elected Councillor Harper's first role on behalf of his electorate was helping volunteers to put up poppies ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
