Have your say on plans to improve the area around Kiveton Park Library
The Wales Ward is set to benefit from Rotherham Council's Towns and Villages Fund and local residents can have their say on new plans.
The Towns and Villages Fund is a multi-million pound commitment from Rotherham Council to improve our local town and village centres.
An initial consultation took place in March 2023 to understand what local residents would like to see around the library area of Kiveton Park.
The available funding will help to improve the appearance of this area. After the initial consultation, we listened to comments and feedback from residents.
Based off your feedback, a new concept plan has been created to reflect what residents have asked for.
We now want to share this updated plan with residents for any final thoughts before the project goes ahead.
Proposals included in the concept plan can be seen below.
If you wish to view the plans and have your say, please come along to Kiveton Park Library on Monday 12 June from 4.30pm to 6pm.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Investment from the Towns and Villages Fund supports the Wales Ward priority of developing initiatives to improve the local environment.
Wales pupils hate bullying
Following a meeting between the Council's Community Safety team and Swinton Academy's School Council, Swinton students designed an exercise book cover to raise awareness of hate incidents and bullying in schools and to help teachers introduce the subject in class.
Year 7 pupils in 12 secondary schools will now receive the books, including Wales High School.
Last month, Councillor Marnie Havard and Chris Gaynor from the Community Safety team, presented Year 7's with their copies of the books.
Councillor Havard said:
"The books are a great idea. As well as having a practical classroom use, they will also stir thinking about the hurt and harm that hate and bullying cause. They also remind pupils how to report incidents both in and out of school."
Wales High School expressed an interest in working with the Council on a similar project, which will be delivered at the end of the year, so watch this space!
Find out more about Harthill Workbench
Harthill Workbench are a community group of woodworking enthusiasts. The group aims to improve the area for the benefit of the community by providing amenities for local people who have an interest in woodworking and similar craft pastimes.
Supporting local groups and organisations is a ward priority for your Wales councillors.
You can find out more about the group and how to get involved below.
Harthill workbench has been open for almost 4 years. When we started most, if not all, of our tools and machinery were second hand.
Over the last 4 years we have been lucky enough to receive donations, which have allowed us to purchase new tools and machinery. We now have what can be best described as a professional workshop, that is able to cater to the needs of all our members.
Our membership continues to grow and the workshop is now getting very busy. This is pleasing.
At the moment, we are not operating a booking system and members can come along as they wish.
Currently, we are open Wednesday to Sunday inclusive from 10am to 2pm but we are considering extending our opening days in view of the increase in popularity.
This does impact on the 4 of us who run the workshop, so we are continuing to review this.
We are always open to people who would like to join our small team and assist with the opening, supervision and closing of the workshop.
The skills that have been learnt in the workshop and the items which have been made can best be described as “stunning”. We have people who have said "I don’t know anything about woodworking" when they joined. These people are now producing excellent items.
We are always happy to teach people and those who are already skilled in woodworking are able to work on their projects.
We are located in the grounds of Harthill Leisure Centre on Woodall Lane, so why not pop in and see us.
Harthill Leisure Centre
The new season is just about to get underway at Harthill Leisure Centre, with both our bowling and netball teams keen to start making the most of the warmer, lighter days.
The games area can also be hired for tennis and 5-a-side football, at very reasonable rates.
We are always looking to increase the use of the centre and with that in mind, are bringing back our open day.
This year, the open day returns from 29 April and will be taking place on the last Saturday of each month from 10am to 1pm through to the Summer. At the open day you can trial different sports.
Harthill Workbench will also be open so that visitors can take a look around.
Breakfast will also be available and for the first time, you can come along to a new Makers Market.
Local producers and crafters from the local area will be on-site offering wonderful, locally-made gifts, crafts, food and drinks.
We do have a small number of pitches left for anyone wanting to join us. For bookings, pitch reservations or enquiries about activities on offer, please contact Lesley Ellam on 07890 410778, Neill Radford on 07971 081318 or message us via our Facebook page.
