Pupils in Years 5 and 6 from Aston Lodge Primary took a trip to a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) event at Magna.
The visit was made possible thanks to Aston and Todwick councillors' Community Leadership Fund. Councillors Bacon and Barker want to help inspire the next generation and their future careers.
The children have been asked to write an account of the trip and how they feel inspired about their future career, as part of a writing competition. Students in Year 5 and Year 6 at Aston Lodge will be judged by the councillors who will go into school to present the winners with an award in May.
One of the class teachers Mellissa Jenkinson who attended the event with the children had this to say:
"Our Year 5 and Year 6 at Aston Lodge Primary loved attending the work-wise careers fair, centred around STEM. They spoke to scientists, engineers, inventors, designers, universities, and public services and had the chance to get involved with the interactive workshops available.
"We were complemented on our manners and knowledge of science and all things STEM. We also walked away with some freebies, a bonus! Well done UKS2.”
More images from the STEM event are included below.

Wizz is a free social networking app that enables users to chat live online with strangers from around the world and exchange gifs, pictures, and videos.
It works similarly to a dating app, where you are presented with other people's profiles and users can choose to either swipe them away or swipe to start a conversation.
Although the age verification is intended to ensure the app is only used by people aged 16+, it is easy to get around and harmful content could be shared.
Supporting initiatives around anti-social behaviour, crime and community safety is a ward priority for your councillors.
The Safer Rotherham Partnership have produced an information guide with further information about the app, how to discuss it with young people and sources of support.

South Yorkshire Police have received reports of incidents of, or attempted burglaries around properties around the roads off the Chase at Aston. Our partners at the Police wanted to share the below advice with you,
Spring is in the air, with that a whole host of other things we'd rather do, spending more time outside our properties and letting some fresh air into our homes! Unfortunately, it's a good time for opportunist burglaries, don't get caught out this Spring and Summer and follow this handy check list before you leave the house.
- Are your inside lights on a switch? Timer or smart bulb with timer?
- Is your home alarm on?
- Are your valuable items such as jewellery, car keys, laptops, iPads,
cash and phones out of sight?
- Are your chargers and cables for laptops/iPads out of view?
Interior/doors
- Is your front door double or deadlocked?
- Are all the doors to your home locked?
- Are your door keys kept out of sight but to hand in case of emergency?
Exterior
- Are your outside lights on a sensor?
- Are your sheds, side gates. garages and outbuildings locked?
- Have you cut down tall hedges around the outside of your home?
- Is all packaging from expensive items i.e. laptops, tablets, phones, games
consoles out of sight?
- Are your vehicles locked and valuables removed?
- Are items that can be used to break in, i.e. bricks, rubble, ladders, garden
equipment put away?
- Have you created a written and photographic record of any items of value (financial or sentimental)?
Lend a hand. Make a change.
