On Wednesday 1 December, Councillor Lewis Mills and Councillor Greg Reynolds attended the weekly Community Cafe at the Bill Chafer Centre.
Lewis and Greg also met with the new PCSO, Dave Wright, who will be working with us in Bramley and Ravenfield. Addressing crime and anti-social behaviour is a Ward priority for your Councillors. Dave brought along a selection of free target hardening and crime prevention resources, including TV simulators, purse bells, card protectors and vibration sensors.
The Cafe is open from 10am to 12 noon and is a brilliant place to meet up with friends for a cuppa, keep warm, or sample some homecooked food, whether it's cake, or bacon butties!
Lewis commented: "It’s a great way to get speaking with local people about local issues."
Greg added: "Community coffee mornings are worth their weight in gold. The people that attend have a warm and safe space to chat to meet new people."
Thank you to Bramley Parish Council for starting something great and always allowing Lewis, Greg and the Neighbourhoods Team the opportunity to work with you, so that together we can make the local community an even better place to live.
There was plenty on offer at the Hooton Roberts Christmas Market last week. Stalls included cake, a tombola, arts, crafts and a Santa's Grotto!
The village came together as always to ensure that residents had loads of fun, providing an opportunity to shop local and celebrate the festive season.
Unfortunately, Father Christmas couldn't make it (he was washing his beard), so our very own Greg stepped into the big man's shoes!
Plans are already underway for next year and the Church and Parish Committee members would like to thank everyone for coming along and raising funds that will help to support the Church.
 Ravenfield Women's Institute Christmas Fayre
Ravenfield Women's Institute held their Christmas Fayre in November. Councillors were really impressed with the variety of stalls and how busy the event was.
Mini Panto at Ravenfield Parish Hall
The Mini Panto at Ravenfield Parish Hall went down a treat! Oh no it didn't...oh yes it did! Really, it did!
The Parish Council would like to thank everyone for supporting their first ever panto, which was sold out and a huge success. Councillor Mills and Reynolds were happy to contribute some of their Community Leadership Fund to ensure that the panto could be enjoyed by all. This supports the Bramley and Ravenfield Ward priority around bringing people together.
Christmas lights switch-on
And if you haven't walked or driven past yet then take a look at the Christmas lights as you go through the crossroads at Bramley. Councillors attended the event at the Cavalier pub, alongside the Mayor of Rotherham, MP John Healey and hundreds of people from in and around Ravenfield.
Lewis said: "Ravenfield Primary Academy Choir and Bramley Brass Band were phenomenal, as always. There was a great sense of community spirit in the air and we can now finally start the countdown to Christmas!"
As always, it was a fantastic evening and the lights look beautifully festive.
There are spaces across Bramley and Ravenfield Ward, and across Rotherham that are offering additional activities for you all to get involved in.
Supporting community and local groups with the Cost of Living crisis is a Ward priority for your Bramley and Ravenfield Councillors.
In and around the Bramley and Ravenfield Ward, there are a number of Warm Welcome Spaces, including:
Check out the Council website for more information, or visit Find a Warm Welcome Space.
Lost Chord will be hosting a singalong session with Sally Glennon in the new year. The event is dementia-friendly, free and open for everyone to enjoy!
Funded by Councillor Lewis Mills, Councillor Greg Reynolds and Lost Chord UK, the session will be full of singing, dancing, clapping and laughter.
Thanks to Ravenfield Parish Council for gifting the use of Ravenfield Parish Hall. Maltby Tesco will be providing lots of tasty treats and hot drinks, all free of charge.
So, if you fancy singing along to some of your favourite songs, or tapping your toes to the music, join us on Saturday 21 January, 2pm to 3.30pm at Ravenfield Parish Hall, Birchwood Drive, S65 4PT.
With help from the Council's Electoral Services Team, Neighbourhoods Team and Councillors Mills and Reynolds, Bramley Grange Primary ran their School Council elections at the end of November.
The children up for election worked hard to put together manifestos and campaigns, whilst their peers thought long and hard about who would best represent their views.
We took along a ballot box for each class, a polling station and Mike from Electoral Services, to ensure that the day ran as smoothly and professionally as possible.
Councillors Mills and Reynolds spoke to the children about what it's like to be a Councillor and the children came up with some brilliant and imaginative questions to ask the Councillors. Questions included:
- "Do you get a break?"
- "Do you get in trouble for being late?"
- "Do you have a boss?"
These were some of the big questions that the children wanted to know when considering a career.
Thank you from all of us for having us along to your School Council elections and a massive well done to all the children for taking part.
Good luck to those who were elected to represent the school, we're sure you'll do a fantastic job!
Earlier this year, Bramley Parish Council approached Lewis and Greg to see if they’d be able to financially support the refurbishment of their fantastic skate park.
Knowing how well the skate park is used and loved, Lewis and Greg contributed £3,000 to give the park a new lease of life.
The Parish Council have also invested nearly £15,000 into keeping this much-loved community asset available for future generations to enjoy.
Lewis said: "This is the type of project we love to get involved in as it gets children and young people out into the community. It helps build their confidence, learn new skills and gets some fresh air into their lungs."
You may have noticed that the skate park has been closed during the refurbishment, but I'm sure you'll agree that it was well worth the wait!
Pictured above is Councillor Greg Reynolds with PCSO Neil Entwistle on Hollings Lane, during a recent Community Speed Watch operation.
During the day, three key locations were targeted, with the following results:
- Moor Lane North: 146 vehicles with 0 speeding
- Hollings lane: 110 vehicles with 1 speeding
- Braithwell Road: 136 vehicles with 0 speeding
Improving road safety is a key Ward priority for your Councillors. We will continue to monitor these areas and work with partners, including local residents, South Yorkshire Police and the Safer Roads Partnership to ensure that roads within the Ward are safe.
Schools reflect on road safety and hate crime
As road safety is a priority in Bramley and Ravenfield Ward, Neighbourhood Coordinators have worked with the Community Safety Team to offer reflective armbands for Year 1 pupils in our Primary Schools.
These were delivered in early November to coincide with the clocks going back, to help keep children safer on darker mornings and evenings.
The snapbands bear the slogan HappinesB4Hate, which was devised by the School Council at Wickersley Northfield Primary School, as part of their work to address bullying and raise awareness of hate crime.
The bands also have a QR code enabling immediate reporting of hate incidents via the Rotherham Council website. Since receiving the snapbands, several more schools have signed up to Rotherham Youth Cabinet’s Hate Charter pledges.
The Council are committed to tackling hate crime and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all residents and its work with schools is at the forefront of this.
