There has been a high number of vehicle thefts across Thurcroft and Wickersley South in recent months.
It is believed that these thefts may be linked to 'theft for order' but we would like to encourage everyone to be vigilant.
Rotherham South NPT have issued the following advice across the South Yorkshire Police alert system. It is simple advice, but it may help to reduce the likelihood of you being a victim of car crime:
- If you have a garage at home then ensure you are using it to store your car, especially overnight
- If you park a car on your driveway, make sure the area is secure and well lit, also consider fitting a security post/bollard at the entrance/exit
- When leaving your vehicle always make sure it is fully locked by physically checking the door handle
- When you get home don’t leave the keys for your vehicle on show or within reach of the letterbox and always lock your house door behind you
- Always turn the vehicle off when not in use and remove the ignition keys – don’t leave it running and unattended when nipping into the shop for a newspaper or during the winter months when you're defrosting the vehicle on your driveway!
- Some vehicles may be susceptible to a breach of the on-board diagnostics port (OBD). OBD locks are available and can assist in reducing the access to the port. As with any additional security for vehicles, try to purchase devices that are Sold Secure tested
- Depending on your vehicle other physical security options may include wheel clamps/locks and steering locks etc – look for devices that are Thatcham Quality Assured or Sold Secure tested
- If your vehicle doesn’t have an immobiliser or an alarm, consider having one professionally fitted to the Thatcham Quality Assured standard
- Tracking devices are also available and may suit more expensive or high-performance vehicles
- Do not leave personal belongings inside your vehicle, this may include expensive items such as laptops, mobile phones etc. Additionally, try not to leave anything in your vehicle, which identifies where you live (if a thief takes your car they might also burgle your house knowing that you’re not at home!)

On the evening of Thursday 13th October, both Ward Councillors attended Brampton Road to conduct a speed watch, in partnership with colleagues from South Yorkshire Police and local residents.
Over 20 of 65 vehicles observed were found to be breaking the speed limit. PC Everitt was on hand to stop any vehicles driving at unsafe speeds through the village.
Councillors are aware from residents' feedback that speeding is an issue, particularly in the evenings, and your Councillors are continuing to push for later observations to take place. This is part of efforts to make sure our roads are safe.
Thurcroft Big Local have arranged a free firework display, which will take place on Saturday 5th November from 6.30pm at the Thurcroft Hub.

On Wednesday 19th October, Ward Councillors in the Thurcroft and Wickersley South Ward consulted with local businesses on Green Arbour Road in Thurcroft to get their thoughts on improvements to the shopping parade.
Improvements are possible thanks to the Council’s Towns and Villages Fund.
The Towns and Villages Fund is a £4 million commitment from Rotherham Council to deliver improvements to local towns and villages across the borough.
As works to revitalise and improve Rotherham Town Centre progress, it is important that investment in local centres is also made.
The feedback that was provided from businesses on the day was invaluable. Feedback will be used to inform the Towns and Villages Fund scheme for the Thurcroft and Wickersley South Ward.
We would like to thank the businesses that provided feedback.
Further information will be shared with residents as the project progresses.
Find out more about the Towns and Villages Fund at: www.rotherham.gov.uk/villages

They include the construction of:
- An additional bus lane between Addison Road, Maltby and Denby Way, Hellaby

If you have a question, ask an expert at a drop-in event between 1pm and 3pm on 3 November at the Bill Chafer Youth Centre.
Your Ward Councillors have access to a small pot of funding designed to allow them to support activities within the ward, which will benefit the residents. Proposals must meet at least one of the following Ward priorities:

- Support crime prevention strategies and target anti-social behaviour
- Develop and improve the local environment
We would like to encourage community groups & organisations to submit applications for projects which they feel would meet his criteria.
