Exam success for Rotherham pupils

Charlotte Travis - A Level results

It's that time of year when thousands of young people across our borough find out their exam results.

This is the first time in two years that children have sat exams and despite the disruption to education caused by the pandemic, performance has been strong in both A Levels and GCSEs.

97.7% of students in Rotherham achieved the pass grades of A* to E (or equivalent) for A Levels – which is in line with the pre-pandemic national average in 2019. Amongst those celebrating is Charlotte Travis of Thomas Rotherham College (pictured above) who secured 4 A* grades and is now headed to the University of Manchester to study Medicine.

For GCSEs 61.7% achieved grade 5 or better in English, which is above the national average of 61.1% and 77.3% achieving a grade 4 pass or higher. For Maths, 71.6% achieved a grade 4 (pass) or better and for English and Maths combined the pass rate was 66.8%.

Consultation branding graphic design

Visitors to Thrybergh Country Park are being asked to take part in an engagement session to discuss plans for improvements to facilities at the park.

It is part of a wider package of measures to develop Rotherham’s leisure offer and visitor economy.

Rotherham secured £20m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to create new jobs and celebrate the "hidden gems" and green spaces that are unique to Rotherham’s heritage, transforming Rotherham into a major leisure destination.
