Water safety
As the UK experiences some of the hottest temperatures on record, we wanted to highlight the dangers of open water.
Strong hidden currents, debris under the water and cold temperatures can hinder your swimming abilities - posing a serious risk to life.
Do not enter or swim in open water, even if it looks calm. We are encouraging people to share the dangers with family and friends. You can find more information at the following link about staying safe.

Thrybergh young people showcase talents
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Thrybergh Parish Council held an art competition for local school children, who took to their sketch pads and easels to showcase their talents.
There were 316 entries in total, with children from Thrybergh Academy, Thrybergh Primary, Thrybergh Fullerton and Thrybergh St Gerard's all taking part.
Artwork was displayed in the Parish Hall and entries were judged by the Thrybergh Art Group, who run weekly art sessions at the hall. There were three categories: 5 years and under, 6 to 11 years and 12 to 16 years.
Winners of each of the categories won a drawing set and a commemorative mug, with all entrants receiving a Jubilee pen.

This summer, children aged 4-11 can visit Rotherham libraries to meet the Gadgeteers and to get involved in a science and innovation themed Summer Reading Challenge.
Through taking part in the Challenge, with free materials from our libraries and online via the Challenge website, children will be able to join six fictional Gadgeteers. The characters – brought to life by children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford – use their curiosity and wonder to understand the science behind a whole range of interests, from fashion and technology to cooking and music.
Through an exciting book collection and accompanying activities, the Gadgeteers will help to spark children’s curiosity about the world around them, and encourage them to feed their imagination over the summer holiday. They will be boggled by brilliant facts, gaze at the stars, and be inspired by tales of creativity and invention. With plenty of great options across picture books, early readers and middle grade books, there’s lots to keep children busy.
To find out more about the planned activities, please contact your local library. We’ve got 15 libraries across Rotherham.

- Be delivered by a group or organisation
- Be for the purpose of ongoing activities or running costs
- Support the delivery of ward priorities
- Benefit local people or community.
How can I apply?
To apply or find out more information, please contact your local ward councillors. Contact details can be found at the bottom of the bulletin.
Please note, budgets cannot support political or religious activities, individuals, capital costs, retrospective activity or anything that would be unlawful for the Council to support.
Bogus callers
Following recent reports of bogus callers, we wanted to share some guidance on staying safe. Scammers and fraudsters may get in touch by phone, online, post or in-person, claiming to be from, or acting on-behalf of the Council or a partner.
Taking these simple measures can help prevent fraud and keep you and your loved ones safe:
- If you are in doubt about a phone call hang up
- If you are in doubt about an email or information on a website, ignore it and don’t click any links
- If you are in doubt about a house call, ask for ID before letting anyone into your home, and if in doubt refuse entry. All genuine Rotherham Council staff and partners carry ID
- Never give your bank details to someone you’re not sure about.
Citizen Advice offer guidance on recognising scams and what to do if you think you have spotted a scam, been a victim and how to protect yourself. You can find out more by visiting their website at Citizens Advice consumer scams.
