 Temperatures take their toll
Extreme temperatures mean that we are having to make some changes to our services today and tomorrow to protect the public and our employees.
For updates please see our website.
Bin collections
We'll be starting our bin collections a little bit earlier tomorrow (Tuesday 19 July) so that our teams can get their rounds completed before the hottest of the weather is expected. If your bin is due for collection tomorrow please ensure it is put out before 6am.
Please share this news with your neighbours.
Markets
There will be no Tuesday Street Market tomorrow (19 July 2022) due to the continuing high temperatures.
The Indoor Market will be open tomorrow but will close early at 1pm to allow shoppers and traders to pack up and get home safely.
Schools
Just like at any time of extreme weather, individual schools will make the call on whether it is safe for them to open as normal.
If school closures are happening, you will be notified directly by your child's school or:

Please protect yourself and others from the possible health effects of hot weather.
The elderly and those with long-term illnesses are particularly vulnerable to the effects of very hot weather, so it's important to look out for them and keep indoor areas as cool as possible.
Please remember to take care in hot weather:
- Stay inside if possible
- Keep your curtains closed
- Drink plenty of cool fluids to stay hydrated
- Avoid the sun during the hottest time of the day (11am-3pm)
- Stay in the shade when outdoors
- Avoid sunburn by applying sun cream and wearing a hat
