Women ‘Building Futures’ in Construction
Why not turn your hobby into a business? Stacey Nagi had an interest in painting and decorating and decided to take it to the next level by attending the fully funded multi-trade course at Rotherham Skills Academy. With expert guidance from tutors, Stacey gained the relevant knowledge and skills needed to become a self-employed decorator.
Rotherham Skills Academy hosted The Women in Construction Event which was a great success, especially for Sam Rogers who enrolled on to the Introduction to Construction and Multi Trade Certificate Programme. While completing the course, Sam secured a permanent role working in Primary Schools to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Civil Engineering. Sam’s employer was so impressed with her level of knowledge about construction that they asked Sam to encourage more women to join the field.

In partnership with Workwise, the ESF funded Business and Education Alliance Project delivered an extremely successful career speed networking workshop at Wingfield Academy on 10th March. The activity was delivered to 195 students aged 13-14 and gave them the opportunity to question different employers about their industry and career.
Business representatives were in attendance to inspire, engage, and inform students on career opportunities within the local area. Feedback received from the attendees was incredibly positive, describing the event as interesting, informative, exciting, and inspirational. Plans for further career speed networking activities to take place in secondary schools and colleges across the borough are currently being made.
