It’s nearly April and there are lots of fun events taking place across Rotherham.
This month, Rotherham Civic Theatre welcomes a brand-new musical re-telling of Cinderella from the perspective of the ‘Not So’ Ugly Sisters, reimagined for the stage in this magical adventure for the whole family by the Yorkshire-based theatre company, Wrongsemble. See the entertaining show The Not So Ugly Sisters on Tuesday 12 April, 7.30pm.
Hosted by South Yorkshire poet Ian McMillan, this month sees the launch of I'd rather Rotherham, a neon artwork by Patrick Murphy that will be installed at the Rotherham Civic Theatre. Running alongside the official neon switch-on, bring along your poems, spoken word pieces and works in progress to share at this informal open mic evening. The event will open with the reading by Ian McMillan of his brand-new poem, and the inspiration behind the artwork, co-created with the Children's Capital of Culture young producers. There's lots of Easter themed activities for children in Rotherham Libraries - from Easter crafts activities to Easter Bonnet Creations. Also, it's International Children's Book Day on Saturday 2 April which you can experience various fun events in libraries across the borough. Then, on Saturday 23 April it's World Book Night and there are some activities planned to celebrate and share the joy of reading.
Clifton Park Museum will have some art workshops for children taking place - Catwalk Creatures with Bluebeany on Tuesday 12 April, 10.30am to 12noon, Making Butterfly and Dragonfly Paper Puppets with artist Kate Sully on Thursday 14 April, 10.30am to 12noon and Making Pom-pom and Paper Flowers with artist Kate Sully on Thursday 21 April, 10.30am to 12noon.
Furry friends can enjoy A Barking Mad Hatters Doggy Tea Party on Sunday 10 April, 11am to 3pm in Rother Valley Country Park at the Mill Building and Craft Unit Building, Ruby and Sophia’s Dog Bakery.

- Saturday 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 April, 9am, Rother Valley parkrun, Rother Valley Country Park - a 5K Run for beginners to experienced runners, all welcome. A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you. You need to register online before you first come along. Please register in advance to gain your free bar code on the parkrun website. Only register with parkrun once and don't forget to bring a scannable copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won't get a time. Normal Parking charges for the park apply.
