Calling all budding artists 

A portrait competition is being organised by Swinton Library. It is open to anyone and will be split into two age categories, under 16s and over 16s. The competition will be held in two rounds.

For round one you would need to submit a self portrait created using pencils or paint by the end of March 2022. The entries would then be judged and 6 entries from each age group will progress to the next round which would be a live 4 hour sitting.

The successful artists would have 4 hours to create a portrait of a local Councillor.  The Councillor will then choose the portrait they like best to take home and a panel will judge all the portraits and crown an overall winner Portrait Artist 2022 in each age category.

Funding has kindly been provided by the Kilnhurst and Swinton East and Swinton Rockingham Ward budgets for a prize for the overall winner of the competition.

Swinton Lego Club towers above the rest!

Want to try your hand at Lego? Join in at Swinton Library on a Saturday morning, 10am – 11.30am. Swinton Library’s Lego Club is buzzing with news of the Lego Challenges currently underway. Last week’s challenge was to build a tower, and we had some great entries.

Visit to Kilnhurst Primary School

The Kilnhurst and Swinton East Ward priorities includes

"Every child making the best start in life"

As part of Ward Councillors' work to make improvements against this ward priority throughout their ward, they are heading back to school.

They started their visits to schools in their ward with Kilnhurst Primary School. Kilnhurst Primary School used to be in the former Silverwood Ward so is new to Councillors. They had a fabulous tour of the school and met with the school council to talk about local democracy and any local issues they were concerned about. A couple of matters have already been looked at and follow up meetings with the school are in the diary.

Brookfield Academy turns 50!

Councillors from Kilnhurst and Swinton East and Swinton Rockingham Wards were delighted to be invited to attend school assemblies at Brookfield Academy on the 31st January 2022.

Councillors spoke about local history as part of the Academy's 50th year. They also spoke about their role as a Ward Councillor and how the law and British values relate to their roles in democracy.

Following the assemblies Councillors met with the Pupil Council to chat about local issues and answer questions. Councillors were pleased that local young people have such great interest and enthusiasm for the local area where they live.
