Five lucky winners
Brinsworth Ward Councillors Adam and Charlotte Carter along with the Brinsworth Parish Council Chair Cheryl Jones attended the ACT Christmas Fayre at Brinsworth Academy to award 5 lucky prize draw winners with a £20 gift voucher.
The pupils had taken part in a survey that aimed to help us find out what is important to young people in the Ward. The vouchers were funded through community leadership funding and awarded at a Christmas Fayre organised and hosted by pupils at the Academy as part of their ACT programme. They were also joined by the deputy Mayor Cllr Tajamal Khan who kindly announced the opening of the Fayre
The programme ‘Academy and Community Together’ (ACT) will provide a number of opportunities for young people to work within the community on projects and activities that benefit their neighbourhood. They will be carrying out several community clean-ups and litter picking sessions around the Ward and are also keen to hear from anyone who could use their help on a community project or activity. Please contact Mandy Ardron if you would like further information.

Design a Park Sign Competition
Brinsworth Ward Councillors asked the primary schools of Brinsworth to help them design a park sign for each of the Parish Council owned parks. They received lots of wonderful pictures from the children, and it was a difficult task to choose just 4 winners.
They asked the help of Cheryl Jones, Chair of Brinsworth Parish Council and after looking at more than 100 entries they finally decided on the winners. These are Esmé from Brinsworth Howarth whose design will be displayed in Howarth Play area, Aamna from Brinsworth Whitehill Primary, will have a sign in Millennium park and there are two winners from Brinsworth Manor Infant School, Betsy and Lily who will have their signs displayed in Brinsworth Playing field.
Pictured is Lily, aged 4 showing her winning design. The images have now been sent off to be made into the park signs and once completed the children will be invited to a grand unveiling in the Spring.

Shape the future of Rotherham Council's equality strategy
Rotherham Council has launched a new consultation about its approach to ensuring all parts of the community can access, engage with and benefit from services, as part of its new equalities strategy.
There are three proposed priorities, each with a set of clear actions:
- Understanding, listening, and engaging across all communities
- Delivering fair, inclusive, and accessible services
- Empowering people to engage and challenge discrimination and to promote good community relations
Members of the public can complete an online survey and share their views on the priorities and actions. Responses will also be used to inform the new Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy 2022-2025.
Take part in the online survey - it is open until Monday 7 February.

Earlier this month, Councillors Adam and Charlotte Carter, and Parish Councillor Cheryl Jones attended a ‘dig walk’ with CityFibre in Brinsworth.
They were keen to meet with CityFibre following issues raised by residents elsewhere in Brinsworth during construction works there. They were pleased to hear that since then CityFibre have changed contractor.
Councillors have been assured that while doing these essential works in Brinsworth CityFibre are actively working to minimise disruption, communicate with residents, and get the build done as swiftly as possible.
CityFibre are constructing a full fibre broadband network for Rotherham, which will bring significantly faster broadband speeds to residents. The network connection will be more reliable than legacy or upgraded networks.
Natalie Ward, CityFibre’s City Manager for Rotherham, said: "As our build progresses across Rotherham, it’s important to us that we work with local councils every step of the way to raise awareness and keep residents up-to-date on what we are doing in their area. It was fantastic to meet with Adam, Charlotte and Cheryl to show them the build and progress made so far.”
