It’s nearly February and there are lots of fun events taking place across Rotherham.
This month, the first Rotherham Skate and Arts Festival will take place in the town centre, offering an action-packed 3-day programme organised by Rotherham Cultural Partnership’s Flux* programme from Tuesday 22 – Thursday 24 February, 10am until 3.30pm. This exciting new event will include skateboarding, art installations, colourful floor murals, art workshops, live music, DJ sets, and street food. We can't wait to see you there! #RotherhamSkateArtsFestival
Also as part of this event, Robot Selfie, a wall-painting robot, will be creating a spectacular 10 x 8 metre mural of people’s faces in All Saints’ Square. Created by international production studio Kaleider this will be an exciting chance to observe the robot spray painting for the first time in colour – and it’s happening in Rotherham!
So, if you’d like the chance to see your selfie painted by a robot, from February you will have a chance to submit your selfie, which could be spray-painted onto the massive canvas. Check out RMBCEvents Facebook and Twitter for updates.
Robot Selfie will be painting from 9am until 5pm from Tuesday 22 - Saturday 26 February in All Saints’ Square. For live updates follow #PaintedByARobot #RobotSelfieRotherham
The festival is a part of a wider Children’s Capital of Culture launch event, running from Monday 21 – Saturday 26 February, celebrating the best of Rotherham’s art and heritage, inspired and created by children and young people in Rotherham.
The launch event also includes the opening of the Festival Hub: an interactive exhibition at Clifton Park Museum, co-curated by local young people that tells the story of the Children's Capital of Culture, celebrates youth and childhood, and gives you the chance to share your ideas for the town's future!
Plus, the Truth & Power Café is coming to Rotherham Civic Theatre at 7.30pm on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 February, featuring local young people giving their personal stories in response to the question, "Who has power over you, and what do you want to say to them?" Get your tickets here
