Bag that poo, any rubbish bin will do
Dog mess on and around our streets in Greasbrough or in urban parks is seen by many residents as the most unacceptable and offensive type of litter.
Although most dog owners are responsible, Keep Britain Tidy research found that 13% of dog owners admitted to leaving bagged dog poo behind on a walk.
One common argument is that there are not enough Red Dog Poo Bins on the street.
In fact, you can use any litter bin to dispose of your dog bags and if one is not available please take it home and dispose of it in your general waste bin.
In Rotherham alone we clear up approximately two tons of dog fouling each year from our streets and recreational areas. This is due to irresponsible dog owners failing to pick up after their dog.
It is the responsibility of the person in charge of the dog to clear up any dog foul left by their dog. The legislation makes it clear that being unaware that the dog has fouled, or not having a suitable means of removing the faeces is not a reasonable excuse for failing to remove the foul.
Did you know that failure to clean up after your dog can result in the issue of a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100, or if the case goes to court a fine of up to £1,000?
A single dog mess can contain approximately 1 million microscopic Toxocara eggs. This can cause a potentially serious infection in humans leading to blindness.
