Saturday Market

At a meeting previously held with Wath traders, called by councillors and supported by John Healey MP, it was suggested that a market be held on Saturdays to help increase the footfall in Wath Town Centre.

The pandemic, however, put things on hold, and it is only now that a trial Saturday market has been possible.

The Saturday market has been running for a few weeks now, and initial feedback is that shop traders have noticed an increase in sales. Market traders are also happy to be able to have a stall in Wath on a Saturday as well as the Wednesday Market.

Residents in the Wath Ward have the chance to shape their ward’s local plan.

Working alongside council officers, Councillors Alan Atkin, and Sheila Cowen have drafted four priorities which will are listed below, and will shape the delivery of Council services in the Wath ward over the coming years.

1. Address crime and anti-social behaviour
2. Help maintain an attractive and welcoming environment
3. Improving and enhancing community facilities and green spaces, to ensure they are well used and accessible to all
4.  Explore opportunities to enhance Wath Town Centre

Water Safety Awareness Event

We have lots of beautiful stretches of open water in Rotherham for families and young people to enjoy. However these stretches of water can be very dangerous. There could be hidden dangers beneath the waters surface, and strong currents as well as the risk of sudden cold-water shock which can be fatal to those entering the water.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are linking up with Rotherham Council and other partners to hold several water safety days.

Come along to the session at Manvers Lake on the 18^th August 2pm – 5pm where you can meet a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue officer, watch water safety demonstrations, and get advice about how to keep yourself and your families safe around open water. 

They have also produced and educational video about water safety for primary school aged children. There is also a video for secondary school aged children.

Our Lady and St Josephs Primary School

Prior to the pandemic, as schools going into lockdown,  Ward Councillors provided Our Lady and St Josephs primary School with some parking buddies to try and eliminate the problem of cars parking on the zig-zag lines outside the School.

There has since been some good feedback, pupils and parents love them, and School Staff report an improvement, with less vehicles parking inconsiderately.

Grab-a-Jab

You can now grab a jab at your local covid vaccination center, which is situated within the Montgomery Hall on Church Street. The grab a jab session will be held on Wednesday 4th August between 4pm and 8pm.

These are for anyone requiring their first Pfizer vaccine or their second AstraZenica vaccine. Please note it must me at least six weeks since your first AstraZenica vaccine.
