Voluntary Action Rotherham business as usual

Volunteering is a great way to build skills, try something new and make connections – and Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) can help you find the right opportunity.

Throughout the COVID restrictions VAR have continued to help match people to volunteer roles. They and the volunteers continue to play a vital role in helping charities and community groups resource their COVID recovery activity, and lots of other important good work. They also have an e-bulletin with a section promoting opportunities - some roles are for just a few hours a month and there’s plenty of choice.
Find out more about VAR opportunities online or call 07716 919416.

Employment pathways to success

When Christopher Wheeler was made redundant from a job in distribution, he contacted the Council’s Pathways programme. Employment solutions officers from Pathways helped Christopher update his CV and introduced him to Bluetree in Manvers, who invited him to an on-site assessment day.

This was a chance for Christopher to demonstrate his machine experience and show how he could fit into the company’s culture. Christopher is now working as part of a team manufacturing protective clothing and equipment.

Kickstart your career

The Youth and Employment Hub at Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) helps young people into training, apprenticeships, and work. They also help build skills, confidence, and experience through their Kickstart programme, which provides paid work for six months.

Laura Boulding at RUFC for RUCST

Twenty-two-year-old Laura Boulding had been unemployed for six months when she met with an employability and skills officer at RUCST to talk about her career aspirations. It led to her securing work on the Kickstart programme as an Administration Assistant – despite not having previous administration experience.

Laura is now developing new skills, building up her confidence, and adding valuable experience to add to her CV.
