Swinton neighbourhood update

Changes to the Swinton ward News from your Neighbourhood e-bulletin

This will be the last Swinton e-bulletin in its current form!

New ward boundaries come into effect after the local elections in May. Swinton ward will no longer exist. The northern and western parts of the current ward will move into Swinton Rockingham ward, and the southern and eastern parts of the current ward will move into Kilnhurst and Swinton East ward. A full map of the new wards can be found on the Council’s elections web page.

The Swinton edition of the News from your Neighbourhood e-bulletin will become a combined Swinton Rockingham and Kilnhurst and Swinton East edition, with specific content tailored to each ward from time to time. You can update your email preferences at any time here (choosing which areas you are interested in from the 'Questions' tab) or using the links at the bottom of every e-bulletin.

Elections: Don't lose your chance to vote

Local elections in May

Local elections will take place in Rotherham in May this year. Polls to elect all Rotherham Borough Councillors, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and parish councillors across the borough will take place on Thursday 6 May.

Work is underway to ensure that the elections are conducted as safely as possible, including measures such as transparent screens and providing hand sanitiser at polling stations, but voters may consider alternatives such as postal ballots and voting by proxy. It is quick and easy to register to vote – we would urge Rotherham residents not to leave it too late to register.

Policing Update

Over the last month South Yorkshire Police received a number of reports regarding anti-social behaviour around Swinton precinct which sadly led to a number of bus services being diverted.

Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team ran a successful operation to tackle this in partnership with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. A number of young people were taken home and dealt with in front of their parents and a female was arrested regarding criminal damage in the Swinton area. Bus services have now resumed.

Walking Football Restarts

The easing of Covid 19 restrictions has enabled the much missed walking football to recommence.

Sessions take place on Monday evenings 8pm-9pm and Friday evenings 7pm-8pm at Dearne Valley College. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Each session costs just £3 to attend and is run by Active Dearne and SJD Sports Coaching.

Walking Basketball in Kilnhurst

The Active Dearne project has also started a free walking basketball session in Kilnhurst. The sessions take place at Kilnhurst Cricket Ground on Wednesday evening's 6pm-7pm. Queen Street Park Impact Day

In early March Streetpride undertook an Impact Day in Queen Street Park. The day involved staff and community volunteers joining forces to prune back shrubs and litter pick the park.

We would like to thank the volunteers that took part in the session your help is much appreciated and the park looks much better for all your hard work.
