Changes to the Brinsworth and Catcliffe ward News from your Neighbourhood e-bulletin
This will be the last Brinsworth and Catcliffe e-bulletin in its current form!
New ward boundaries come into effect after the local elections in May. Brinsworth and Catcliffe ward will no longer exist. The Brinsworth area will form the new Brinsworth ward. The parts of the current ward roughly south of Brinsworth Road, Catcliffe and Waverley, will move into Rother Vale ward. A full map of the new wards can be found on the Council’s elections web page.
The Brinsworth and Catcliffe edition of the News from your Neighbourhood e-bulletin will become the Brinsworth edition, though you may want to consider subscribing to one or more of the neighbouring newsletters, such as the editions for Rother Vale ward, Boston Castle ward and Sitwell ward. You can update your email preferences at any time here (choosing which areas you are interested in from the 'Questions' tab) or using the links at the bottom of every e-bulletin.
Thanks, as always, for being a regular reader of this newsletter and for being an active part of your community!

Beat the Street comes to Rotherham
A popular physical activity game that has been played by more than 1.2m people is coming to Rotherham. The contactless game includes players taking part in their family groups or support bubbles, either walking, cycling, running, wheeling or scooting as far as possible within the local area, with prizes for the teams that clock up the highest number of miles.
Lockdown has impacted many people’s activity levels and Beat the Street gives a safe and stimulating way for residents to get out and get active, less car-dependent and fitter which is vital in the fight against COVID-19.
Beat the street starts on 14 April and will run for six weeks Find Out More

Local elections in May
Local elections will take place in Rotherham in May this year. Polls to elect all Rotherham Borough Councillors, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and parish councillors across the borough will take place on Thursday 6 May.
Work is underway to ensure that the elections are conducted as safely as possible, including measures such as transparent screens and providing hand sanitiser at polling stations, but voters may consider alternatives such as postal ballots and voting by proxy. It is quick and easy to register to vote – we would urge Rotherham residents not to leave it too late to register.
Details of candidates for all wards will be published on the Rotherham Council website from 4pm on Friday 9 April.

Waverley Lakes - Wildlife Trail
Its hard to imagine that until 2010, this site was the remains of an open cast coal mine. It has now become a place of natural beauty attracting many migrating birds and wildlife. Follow the path around the lake and see if you can spot some of these species of birds, butterflies, grasses and fruit bushes. Please do remember that the area is for humans to enjoy the wildlife, which means we have to take care of our footprints. There are ground nesting birds around the lakes, so please do stay on the paths, keep dogs under control and take your litter home with you.
If you are looking for something fun to do outdoors then follow the Trail and Spotters Map

Keeping our furry friends safe
Dog ownership has rocketed during the pandemic with many households taking on a new family member during the lockdowns.
Unfortunately the theft of dogs is on the increase and is not restricted to certain breeds or just puppies. Dogs of all ages and types are being targeted so beware of tying your pet outside the shop or letting it run off the lead in parks and open areas.
Sending young children out with their pets can also be risky and if you let your dog loose in the grounds of your property make sure it is safe and no one can take it away.
Since April 2016, the microchipping of dogs over 8 weeks old has been a legal requirement. It is quick, easy and inexpensive and can help reunite stolen dogs with their owners. If you are a low income family you may be able to get your dog chipped for free. Contact Dogs Trust or Blue Cross

Rotherham residents urged to #GetRidReyt
Rotherham Council is urging residents across the borough to make sure they dispose of any excess rubbish in the correct way and #GetRidReyt.
It is a homeowner’s responsibility to make sure that anyone they pay to dispose of rubbish is a registered waste carrier. If that rubbish is found to be dumped, then the homeowner could also face a fine.
A video of a convicted fly tipper has been shared on social media to help raise awareness of the issue. For further details click here
