February Resident of the Month
This Month’s Wickersley Ward Resident of the Month nomination came from Rotherfed's Community Organiser, Rob Gooding. Rotherfed is an organisation that supports communities to grow and develop, working with them to build their sense of belonging, community pride and spirit.
Rob works with many committed volunteers but Wickersley Resident, Jo Workman's community spirit and diverse range of community work, before and throughout the Covid pandemic, stood out.
Wickersley Ward Councillors, Cllr Hoddinott and Cllr Read, were delighted to surprise Jo with a big bunch of flowers and a gift card to spend at a local florist and gift shop.

March Resident of the Month
The last Wickersley Resident of the Month goes to a special lady who has shown true neighbourly kindness, support and spirit, before and throughout the Covid pandemic.
Three separate residents nominated Rose Simmons, who is 71 years young and lives in the Mark Grove Bungalows, Flanderwell. Rose was nominated for her endless and selfless support through the Covid Pandemic. The nominees were full of admiration and gratitude for helping them find information on the internet, fill out forms, stock up kitchen cupboards and most of all, making them smile and lifting spirits through difficult times.
Cllr Hoddinott and Cllr Read again had the pleasure of surprising Rose with a big bunch of flowers and a voucher to a local florist and gift shop.

Street Pride Spring Clean
Some of your local Wickersley Ward Streets received a big clean, just before Spring begins, to help reduce vegetation growth along the roadside and paths. Along with a Road Sweeper, Street Pride Officers litter picked and brushed the streets clean.

Local elections in May
The Government has confirmed that local elections will take place in Rotherham in May this year. Polls to elect all Rotherham Borough Councillors, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and Parish Councillors across the Borough will take place on Thursday 6 May.
Work is underway to ensure that the elections are conducted as safely as possible, including measures such as transparent screens and providing hand sanitiser at polling stations, but voters may consider alternatives such as postal ballots and voting by proxy. It is quick and easy to register to vote – we would urge Rotherham residents not to leave it too late to register.
Ward boundary changes
All seats on Rotherham Council are up for election this year and will take place based on new Ward boundaries for all Wards and all seats. The number of Council seats will be reduced from 63 to 59 and the number of Wards will be increased from 21 to 25.
There will be nine three-Councillor Wards and 16 two-Councillor Wards across the Borough.
Wickersley Ward will no longer exist. Flanderwell and Sunnyside will move into the new Wickersley North Ward and will also include Listerdale. Bramley will move into the new Bramley and Ravenfield Ward.
A full map of the new Wards can be found on the Council’s elections web page.
Voters will begin to receive their poll cards from the end of March, which will include details of which Ward they come under and which polling station they should use (if not voting by post or proxy), which may have changed following the boundary review.

The census is coming on Sunday 21 March 2021
By taking part, you can help to inform decisions on services that shape your community, such as healthcare, education and transport.
It’s important that you fill in your census questionnaire online. It’s easy to take part, but if you need a little extra help there are a wide range of support services.
There’s language support and accessible census guidance. You can also get help from census staff in the contact centre over the phone, in a web chat or on social media.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will send you a letter in the post with an access code and instructions. You can fill your census questionnaire in online as soon as you get yours.
If your household circumstances change on Census Day, you can let the ONS know.
Remember, if you, or anyone you know, needs help, there’s plenty available.

South Yorkshire Police Crime Prevention Advice
Over recent months, your local Police Team have seen an increase in theft from cars and other vehicles, most of which would have been avoided if the vehicles had been locked. Criminals are targeting cars for small change, sunglasses and items stored in glove compartments.
Don’t become a victim! Remove all items from view and keep your car doors locked.
Follow this link for further advice on crime prevention from South Yorkshire Police.
