December 2020
Waverley Living Advent Calendar
Waverley Events Team are hosting their second annual 'Advent Window event' and encourage residents to get involved and make it bigger than ever this year!
Each day through Advent a different house on Waverley will reveal a window display to create a ‘Living Advent Calendar’ which will remain on display until after 25th December.
Residents can sign up to take part and will be allocated a day to decorate their window. On the day they will illuminate the display, take a photograph, and put it on the Waverley Advent Windows Facebook page for everyone to see. This will create a magical trail around the estate for children and families to enjoy throughout the festive period.

Latest coronavirus advice
Rotherham is in the Tier 3: Very High Alert level of Covid-19 restrictions as of Wednesday 2 December.
Under Tier 3 retail, gyms and close-contact beauty services like hairdressers can open but many venues including pubs, restaurants, hotels and indoor entertainment such as cinemas and bingo halls must remain closed.
You must not meet people from outside your household or support bubble socially, either indoors or in most outdoor places. This includes in any private garden and most outdoor venues.
You can meet others in a group of no more than 6 people at some outdoor public spaces, such as parks or countryside accessible to the public or a heritage site – this is called the ‘rule of 6’. Social distancing must be used.
Further information and advice can be found on the Coronavirus pages of the Rotherham Council website.

Festive Twinkle at The Centre
Christmas is going to be different this year, but at The Centre we are wanting to make everything twinkle. Together with Brinsworth Parish Council and the help of funding from Brinsworth Ward Councillors, we are lighting up Brinsworth. You may have seen the beautiful decorations going up inside and outside The Centre together with real Christmas Trees in the garden and on the Patio.
Centre Manager Sue Widdowson said ‘It is so lovely listening to the children walking to and from school, looking at the trees every day and seeing their excitement.
We have plenty of new additions going up, especially the beautiful hand painted Christmas scenes on the windows. These have been done by Lucy Scarlett Strutt and at night with the candlelight they are amazing, and we hope that you all enjoy these as much as we do. This year especially we all need something to make us smile.
The team at The Centre would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported them over the last 12 months.
May we take this time to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Please everyone stay safe and we will see you in the New Year’

Catcliffe Cone Nativity Scene
For the past five years several community groups in Catcliffe have worked together to create a life size nativity scene, fully illuminated and on display in the Catcliffe Glass Cone, accompanied by a carol service and refreshments.
Regrettably, this year there will be no Carols at the Kiln, due to the current Covid restrictions in place. The Nativity will still go ahead and will be on full display from Sunday 13th December to Sunday 3rd January, it will be illuminated from 5pm to 9pm every day. It is free for the public to attend and enjoy however we ask that social distancing rules and local restrictions be adhered to during your visit.

Brighten up Brinsworth
Brinsworth Parish Council have been working hard again this year to brighten up Brinsworth with festive lights. There will be illuminated Christmas trees on the lamp posts, Christmas banners and pre-lit bows displayed around the village alongside a Nativity scene in St Georges Church and additional strings of lights have been supplied by Cllr Simpson's Community Leadership fund.
This year due to covid restrictions it will not be possible to hold a carol service or community switch on, however the lights will be shining bright from Friday 4th December.

The competition is open to anybody aged 12 and under, they must have parental consent to enter the competition.
The closing date for entries is Thursday, 11 December at midnight.
As usual Chief Constable Stephen Watson will choose his favourite four designs and we will ask you to choose the winner through our social media channels. The winning design will be made into our force Christmas card and shared electronically with our partners and colleagues.
