November 2020
Green Flag Awarded
Greasbrough Park (along with Clifton and Ulley Parks) are amongst a record-breaking 2,000 UK parks and green spaces that received the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2020/21 – the mark of a quality park or green space.
These parks and green spaces are crucially important to all the visitors that use them, to relax, meet friends, exercise or just to escape the house during the current Covid pandemic.
This award is a testament to the work that the Friends' Group have put in and continue to put into the park along with Green Spaces Staff (Ricky and Tom) and reflects the standard that has now been reached together.

A very wet meeting
Ward Councillors have continued to be available to support local Community Groups during the Covid Pandemic (in line with current government restrictions).
They met outdoors with Friends of Greasbrough parks, however the weather wasn’t kind – it was cold and wet, but a cup of tea and biscuits went down well.
(Please note this meeting took place before Tier 3 restrictions came into effect)

Reduce the Risk
To further help control the threat of Covid-19 national lockdown measures came into on Thursday 5 November and will remain in place until Wednesday 2nd December, at which point they will be reviewed.
To help protect the NHS and save lives we are being asked to reduce our day-to-day contact with other people which will help reduce the spread of infection.
You must:
- stay at home, including working from home where possible, unless you are attending school, college or university, attending medical appointments, or other essential activities. Unlike earlier this year there are no limits on the time you can spend exercising, and you can do this with one other person as long as you are socially distanced.
- Continue to ensure that you are two metres apart from anyone not in your household or support bubble as far as possible. With some limited exceptions, you should not visit other people inside their homes or gardens. Exceptions include people in your household support bubble, or visits for work purposes.
Non-essential retail, hospitality and leisure businesses are closed for the duration of the lockdown period. Detailed information on the new lockdown restrictions can be found on the government website.
Further information and guidance about Covid-19 can also be found on the Council's website

Ward Housing Hub funding
The Wingfield Ward Housing Hub is an opportunity for tenants and residents to work with the Council on issues that matter to them, including the quality of our services, our performance and how we can continue to improve. Hubs are supported by an annual budget which is used to make improvements within neighbourhoods.
We are committed to working with local people to improve your local area, and we need your ideas and views. Rotherham Federation (RotherFed) have put in place dedicated support to help tenants who have ideas for council projects that would help make council estates cleaner, greener and safer.
Projects must be on land owned by the Council's housing service and benefit more than one council tenant. They also need to have a long term benefit and meet local ward priorities which are:
- to develop community hubs and engage with individuals; groups through networking event
- to ensure a co-ordinated response to crime and anti-social behaviour
- to address isolation and loneliness
- to support groups working to provide facilities for young people and projects focusing on their mental health
Project suggestions are requested from tenants, residents and groups, so if you have an idea that you think will fall into one of those categories these can be submitted either via the Ward Housing Hub website or by getting in touch with Rob Gooding via Facebook, email or phone. Rubbish on your street
Other unfortunate victims of the pandemic are the local groups who take time to arrange community litter picks, targeting problem areas. These groups help enormously in keeping our town clean and tidy.
Until restrictions are lifted, and normal business resumes, any concerns about rubbish littering your street can be reported online via: https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/street-care-cleaning
